Tutu Tuesday in Kawartha Lakes, Ontario: A Celebration of the Whimsical and the Wonderful

Hey fellow dance enthusiasts! It's your girl, Claire, back with another blog post. Today is a day for twirls and pirouettes because it's Tutu Tuesday! I know, I know, you're probably thinking, "Claire, aren't you supposed to be practicing your arabesques and fouettés? What's with the sudden shift to fashion?" But trust me, friends, these two things go hand-in-hand, especially in a place as picturesque as Kawartha Lakes.

Let's face it, there's just something about the feeling of a tulle skirt swishing around your legs as you leap through the air, feeling every inch the ballerina, even if you're just pirouetting through your living room. It's an undeniable magic that brings a smile to everyone's face. And what's better than embracing that magic than with a day dedicated to all things tutu?

Now, I know what you're thinking. You're picturing the traditional classic tutus, the ones with layers and layers of delicate, stiff tulle. But Tutu Tuesday is about breaking down stereotypes and embracing the fun, versatile, and downright whimsical nature of tutus.

Think about it: Tutues come in all shapes, sizes, and colours. They can be classic and romantic, playful and quirky, or even modern and edgy. A tutu can be a statement piece, a comfortable and comfy outfit, or just plain fun to wear. You can wear it with a sparkly top and tights, a casual T-shirt and denim jacket, or even dress it down for a picnic at the lake.

Speaking of the Kawartha Lakes, I feel so lucky to live in this gorgeous region of Canada. It's no surprise that so many incredible artists, dancers, and creatives have called this place home. And the Kawartha Lakes is bursting with creative spirit - from the thriving local art scene to the vibrant dance studios across the region.

I spent this past weekend at a little dance workshop run by the amazing Jennifer B., who's a rising star in the Canadian ballet scene. Jennifer taught us how to work with the "romantic tutu", a slightly shorter, lighter, and softer version of the traditional tutus. We did beautiful adagio work with our hands extended, floating like graceful birds in a breathtaking sunrise sky. It was an incredible experience.

And hey, what would Tutu Tuesday be without a bit of fashion inspo? So, here's my round-up of my #tututuesday picks:

  • The **classic romantic tutu**. Think The Sleeping Beauty meets Canadian wilderness vibes. This is the kind of tutu that makes you feel like a princess strolling through a forest, with the warm, golden sun dappling down on the woodland.
  • The **modern ballet tutu**. This one is all about clean lines, modern silhouettes, and bold colours. Think geometric designs, asymmetrical shapes, and unconventional materials. A perfect mix of high fashion and graceful ballet movement.
  • The **boho tutu**. Imagine layered fabric in natural hues, with a little lace and beads sprinkled on top. This one is a free spirit, just like a day at the cottage by the water.
  • The **statement tutu.** This one is a bit more adventurous. We're talking bright colours, eye-catching designs, and unexpected textures. If you like turning heads, then this is the tutu for you.

Remember, you don't need to be a professional dancer to join the Tutu Tuesday party. Just throw on a tutu, a comfy outfit, or anything that makes you feel like dancing and join the fun. Whether you're in Kawartha Lakes, Toronto, Vancouver, or anywhere else in Canada, I'd love to see your Tutu Tuesday looks!

So, what are you waiting for? Get creative, unleash your inner ballerina, and let those tutus fly. Remember, the more you dance, the more joy you share.
