Tutu Tuesday in Blainville, Quebec: A Whirlwind of Tulle and Trendsetting

Hey dance lovers! Itā€™s your girl, Sarah, back with another post about my favourite day of the week ā€“ Tutu Tuesday! Iā€™ve been seeing this hashtag popping up everywhere and I have to say, itā€™s become a delightful ritual in the dance community, especially here in Blainville. From seasoned ballerinas to those just discovering their inner twirling power, Tutu Tuesday has become a joyful celebration of dance, style, and community. And letā€™s be real, who doesnā€™t love an excuse to rock a tutu?

Now, for all you newcomers, letā€™s break it down. Tutu Tuesday is a global online movement where people of all ages and dance backgrounds celebrate the magic of the tutu. Whether youā€™re rocking a classic romantic tutu for your ballet class or throwing on a playful, brightly-coloured tutu for a night out, it's a fun and lighthearted way to show off your love for dance and embrace the joy of self-expression.

This past week, Blainville was truly ablaze with the colour and energy of Tutu Tuesday. I was lucky enough to be at the Blainville Ballet Academy on Tuesday, and the atmosphere was absolutely electric. It was heartwarming to see how many students of all ages came prepared, adorned in their finest tutus. Itā€™s really quite a spectacle ā€“ imagining so many little girls dancing in fluffy pink tutus and seeing the seasoned ballerinas rocking elegant, black swan-inspired tutus ā€“ itā€™s simply magical!

For all my fellow Canadians who love dance, letā€™s face it, thereā€™s no better feeling than dancing in a tutu with a fresh snowfall as a backdrop. As much as I love being inspired by international dance trends, I always get a kick out of seeing what fellow Canadian ballerinas and dance enthusiasts are rocking on their social media feeds. Thereā€™s definitely a uniquely Canadian vibe to the #tututuesday trend ā€“ maybe itā€™s the cozy, inviting aesthetic or the abundance of gorgeous, snowy landscapes, but itā€™s truly a sight to behold!

Here are a few of the amazing things I saw at the Blainville Ballet Academy on Tuesday:

  • The Romantic Tutu Comeback - While a lot of tutus get a bad rap for being ā€œtoo traditionalā€, I loved seeing the return of the classic Romantic tutu. Itā€™s always elegant and beautiful, a graceful dance with tulle and delicate embroidery. The Blainville dancers who rocked this style brought a unique, almost ethereal elegance to the dance studio.
  • Colourful & Playful Tutus - The younger dancers were all about the colour and fun! The studio was filled with rainbow-bright colours and vibrant patterns, which truly brought a burst of cheer to the space. They were bouncing around like a beautiful kaleidoscope of colour!
  • The Unexpectedly Chic Tutus - I spotted a few ballerinas (some seasoned pros and even a few moms of young dancers) rocking tutus for a special occasion. These weren't your typical ballet tutus, but stylish, more casual options perfect for a night out on the town. Whether they were rocking tulle skirts with a cute leather jacket or pairing a simple black tutu with a statement necklace, it showed the versatility of tutus!

You know what really excites me about Tutu Tuesday? The incredible community it brings together. It transcends age, style, and dance experience. The common thread is our shared love for dance, expression, and just plain fun! Seeing everyone embracing their inner tutu enthusiast with confidence, humour, and a healthy dose of dance-inspired joy ā€“ thatā€™s what truly makes it special.

If youā€™re ever looking for a reason to throw on your favourite tutu, embrace your inner ballerina, and celebrate dance, join us on Tutu Tuesday! Thereā€™s no dress code, no rules, and definitely no judgement. It's just about dancing with a smile and celebrating our love for this beautiful art form. And be sure to share your amazing tutu looks on social media with #tututuesday - I canā€™t wait to see them all!

Thatā€™s all from me for now!

Until next time, keep dancing!

Stay Chic and Twirl On!

Sarah
