Tutu Tuesday in Val-d'Or, Quebec: #tututuesday

Hey everyone, it’s your girl, Claire from Ballet Buzz, back with another Tutu Tuesday! This time we’re heading up north to Val-d’Or, Quebec, a city known for its beautiful landscapes, welcoming community, and…well, maybe not necessarily its tutu scene. But fear not, my fellow dance lovers, I’m on a mission to bring the Tutu Tuesday magic to every corner of this beautiful country.

So, what does Tutu Tuesday even mean? It's all about celebrating our love for ballet, especially the iconic tutu. But here’s the catch – I’m not talking about your typical, strict, classic tutu. We’re talkin’ all things TUTU – think fluffy tutus, contemporary tutus, colourful tutus, sparkly tutus… the works! I’m a big advocate for expanding the perception of tutus – they’re not just for classical ballerinas, you know! I’ve worn a tutu everywhere from the stage to my friend’s birthday party and everywhere in between!

Here in Val-d'Or, the tutu scene might be a little… shall we say, understated? But there are hidden gems everywhere, if you know where to look. Let's get this tutu party started. Here are a few of my favourite Val-d’Or spots for tutu-related fun.

  • Le Centre Culturel de Val-d'Or
  • Okay, I know, this one seems pretty obvious. But, hear me out. The Val-d'Or Cultural Centre hosts incredible ballet performances throughout the year! Plus, their gorgeous art gallery might just inspire you to do a little tutu-themed creative exploration of your own. It’s been years since I’ve been up here so maybe they’ll even have a class or workshop!

  • The Great Outdoors!
  • We Canadians are lucky enough to be surrounded by some incredible scenery and Val-d’Or’s nature is no exception. Whether you’re exploring the Lac-Allard Reservoir, or hitting up the famous Pilon mountain (one of the most impressive landmarks in the area) don’t forget to capture a few photos. This is your chance to create some absolutely incredible tutu pics for your Instagram!

  • The Local Boutique Scene
  • Alright, let’s face it. Finding the perfect tutu in Val-d'Or might take a bit of detective work. However, there's an amazing local boutique scene here. This is your opportunity to check out independent designers and maybe even find a few vintage gems. You never know, that one-of-a-kind tutu you’ve been dreaming of might be tucked away somewhere in Val-d’Or! If you want something unique, I'm a firm believer in supporting local talent. After all, it's about having fun with fashion, not just sticking to big brands.

  • Café du Centre
  • Need a break from all the shopping and sight-seeing? Cafe du Centre offers delicious local brews and pastries to fuel your day. You might even see some tutu-inspired artistry on their menu – that's what makes Val-d’Or so unique.

  • Dance Schools of Val-d'Or!
  • And now, the grand finale! It’s only fair that I talk about Val-d'Or's vibrant dance scene. The city has a variety of dance studios, including ballet schools! They're definitely worth checking out, especially if you're looking for classes or just a friendly place to practice your moves. And hey, they might have a tutu or two lying around that you could borrow for your Tutu Tuesday adventure!

So, that’s my #tututuesday itinerary for Val-d'Or, Quebec. Remember, every day can be Tutu Tuesday, if you put your heart and soul into it! Have you ever been to Val-d'Or, or any other parts of Quebec? Do you have any favorite Tutu Tuesday destinations? Tell me all about it in the comments!

This has been Claire from Ballet Buzz, signing off. Keep dancing!
