Tutu Tuesday in Whitehorse, Yukon: A Ballerina’s Guide to Whimsy and Style #tututuesday

Hey fellow dance lovers! It's your girl, Émilie, bringing you another installment of "Tutu Tuesday." This week, I'm trading in the studio for the stunning backdrop of Whitehorse, Yukon, and let me tell you, it's an adventure in itself!

For those of you who don't know, Whitehorse is the capital city of the Yukon Territory in Canada. It's a place that boasts rugged beauty, with majestic mountains and sparkling lakes, and somehow, the breathtaking landscape even inspires a touch of ballet in my soul.

This week, I'm taking the spirit of #tututuesday to new heights. Gone are the days of just sticking to traditional tutus, though I have to say, the romanticism of a classic Romantic tutu with its flowing layers and soft tulle still gets me every time. We're exploring the bolder side of this iconic garment, finding inspiration in the dramatic and untamed nature of the Yukon.

To kick things off, I decided on a modern tutu with an edge: A classic black tulle skirt, cinched at the waist with a leather belt and styled with a statement bomber jacket. This look is all about contrasts – the femininity of the tutu, paired with the rugged masculinity of the bomber. I kept it clean and simple, pairing my black tutu with a fitted black crop top, sticking to sleek, ballet-inspired black ballet flats for an edgy street look. I wouldn't have gone anywhere without my furry black earmuffs to fight off the brisk Yukon air, for the temperatures can be chilly in Whitehorse! This outfit embraces the bold and edgy vibe that Whitehorse, Yukon whispers about. The dramatic nature of the outfit feels perfect for exploring this captivating landscape.

But for my second #tututuesday look in Whitehorse, Yukon, I channeled a more whimsical and romantic mood, taking inspiration from the shimmering beauty of the Yukon's landscape. The Romantic tutu remains a favourite for me. For this outfit, I selected a flowy white tulle tutu. I kept the top minimalist with a classic white scoop-neck tank, letting the skirt be the statement piece. A simple silver chain necklace with a delicate star pendant, was the only other jewellery I wore, symbolizing the stars twinkling in the Yukon sky. I opted for white ballet flats with a little embellishment to add a touch of sparkle and complete this outfit perfectly.

One thing I learned from this trip to Whitehorse: the magic of a tutu transcends geographical borders, cultures, and even climates! You can totally find a way to embrace the joy of the tutu in whatever environment you’re in, regardless if you're walking along a city street or a snowy Yukon mountaintop. The versatility of the tutu is what makes it such a fun and endlessly inspiring piece of clothing.

The beauty of ballet isn’t restricted to just the stage, my friends. It's a powerful way of expressing yourself and connecting with the world around you. And what better way to celebrate that than with #tututuesday?
