Tutu Tuesday in King, Ontario: A Celebration of All Things Tutu #tututuesday Hey dance fam! It’s your girl, Sarah, back with another post, and this time, it’s all about tutus! Yes, you heard that right. Every Tuesday, I take a moment to appreciate the artistry and grace of the tutu. You might think I’m being a little extra, but trust me, this classic piece of ballet attire deserves a day all to itself. Tutus: more than just a pretty dress For starters, tutus aren’t just fluffy skirts; they’re works of art. Think of all the intricate details: layers of tulle, strategically placed seams, the meticulous hand-sewing, and don’t even get me started on the colours and patterns. These pieces demand a level of craft that truly transcends the realm of fashion. Let’s Talk Tutu Styles: * **The Romantic Tutu:** It's all about airy, delicate layers of tulle and often has a conical shape. Imagine the graceful movements in "Giselle," that's a Romantic Tutu in action! * **The Classical Tutu:** This is what you picture when you hear “tutu”. It’s stiff, and flat, usually worn for demanding choreography. * **The Bell Tutu:** It looks exactly as you would think, bell-shaped, perfect for pirouettes and leaps! * **The Modern Tutu:** The modern dance world loves the freedom of expression that comes with different fabrics like cotton, satin, and silk. We often see these types of tutus in ballets that are a little more abstract. Canadian Ballet & Tutu Tuesday I live in King, Ontario, and while we don’t have a massive opera house with a company like the National Ballet of Canada in Toronto, our local dance studio holds special significance for me. It's where I first discovered the magic of the tutu! It's been years since my childhood days as a tiny ballerina-in-training. Still, when I see young dancers, whether in King, Toronto, or anywhere else, I remember the joy of wearing a tutu, of feeling empowered and connected to this extraordinary form of expression. A Little Bit of Tutu Fun Here's a little #tututuesday challenge for my fellow dancers (and any fans): * Snap a photo of your favorite tutu (old or new) or yourself wearing one! * Post it on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and tag me - I’d love to see it! * Tag #tututuesday to connect with other dance enthusiasts. * Let's make every Tuesday a celebration of these whimsical pieces of ballet magic. See ya next week for more Tutu Tuesday inspiration!
