Tutu Tuesday in Scugog, Ontario: A Whirlwind of Tulle and Grace
Hey everyone! It’s your friendly neighbourhood ballet dancer and fashion blogger, back with another #Tututuesday post, this time from the beautiful Scugog, Ontario. It’s the first week of October and the crisp air is already making me think of cozy sweaters, pumpkin spice lattes, and, of course, a brand new #tututuesday theme.
But let’s start with the main event – the tutus. Today’s #tututuesday selection is all about finding the perfect blend of traditional grace and contemporary chic. I know what you’re thinking – “Tutus? In *Scugog*? What on earth would inspire such a thing?”. But hear me out, because I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
You see, Scugog is a place where nature meets a certain quaint charm that makes you want to dance. The lush landscapes, serene lakes, and even the quaint little town centre – they all possess a sense of calm elegance. It’s that feeling of calm elegance that resonated with my #tututuesday vision today.
First, I took a trip down memory lane, reflecting on the many tutus I’ve donned in my ballet career. I thought about the classic **romantic tutu** with its layers of soft tulle, often featuring a beautiful design in the middle of the skirt, with shorter, fitted bodice, and the **classical tutu**, which is another classic, the perfect blend of flow and form with a full, and then there are the **contemporary tutus**, perfect for showcasing dramatic, athletic movements. With their variations, the options are almost limitless, but I settled on a **short, full, multi-tiered tutu in soft pale pink** because it encapsulated the airy grace of Scugog’s scenery perfectly. It was like a gentle whisper of colour and movement against the canvas of autumn’s foliage.
But Scugog isn’t all about nature. It’s also about the people – the kind and welcoming faces who make this small town feel so warm and vibrant. With the tutus in place, I took a spin around the quaint Scugog downtown. I’ve always been a huge fan of vintage styles and that includes dancewear. The town has a great vintage scene – the shops on Queen Street are chock full of treasures waiting to be rediscovered and I’m sure any vintage-loving ballet dancer can imagine the potential to add a truly unique look to their dancing or fashion sense.
It’s all about incorporating the past with the present. With each turn and pirouette, the pale pink tutu seemed to twirl into a story about the town – its heritage, its people, and its unwavering sense of community. The wind gently caught the tulle, mimicking the rustle of the leaves as I danced by the historic Scugog River. Every element seemed to harmonise, creating a scene that was both beautiful and timeless.
Now, back to my blog and back to the important part – where I find my tutu styles for my own #tututuesday adventures:
* **First, let's talk Etsy**. A treasure trove of one-of-a-kind tutus for everyone, not just ballerinas. Find your inner ballerina and unleash it with this vast online store. I mean you could literally have any colour you want - it doesn't matter the occasion you can always find something fun to wear, from an intricate **Romantic Tutu**, with all its billowing layers, or something more dramatic with its multiple layered, flowing panels, it's all there!
* **Second, your local ballet supply shop!**. If you have one close by, a trip to a dance store will provide a wide range of options – **bodices**, **skirts**, **classic designs**, and maybe some **custom pieces** from their inventory if you want to feel extra fancy. You never know, you might discover a rare gem hidden away in the corner – or better yet – meet some new friends with the same passion.
* **Then of course there is the world of fashion**: From **designer pieces**, to high street trends, I bet you'll find the perfect outfit to help your inner-tutu shine, or maybe even your favourite retailer sells a **midi-skirt** with tulle underlayers, giving the whole ensemble an airy, elegant vibe! It’s not about being a ballerina – it’s about taking a little inspiration and making it your own!
That's all folks, thanks for joining me for another adventure! Stay tuned for next #Tututuesday, when I will be bringing some of the beauty of Scugog, Ontario to you with some unique and modern looks inspired by the region's charm and warmth. See you soon!
