Tutu Tuesday in Sainte-Catherine, Quebec: A Dance of Colour and Creativity #tututuesday

It’s a Tuesday morning and I'm sitting here sipping my Tim Hortons coffee, my trusty laptop beside me, the scent of maple syrup lingering in the air. Today is a special day - a day that unites dance lovers, fashion enthusiasts, and tutu aficionados across Canada: Tutu Tuesday!

For those of you who haven't heard of Tutu Tuesday, it's a weekly celebration of all things tutus, where people around the globe (including in Sainte-Catherine, Quebec, of course) take to social media and show off their twirly delights. But Tutu Tuesday isn't just about wearing tutus; it's about expressing your individual style, celebrating your passion for dance, and injecting a bit of fun into the everyday.

Let's face it: a tutu is a statement piece, and it’s pretty hard to stay subtle in one! Whether you prefer the classic romantic tutu with its layers of tulle and fluffy, airy grace, or the bold contemporary tutu that commands attention with its sleek, modern lines, the options are endless. And who can resist the sheer joy of swirling around in a cloud of fabric, feeling like a graceful ballerina on the stage?

For those of you new to the tutu world, I recommend starting with a simple, versatile style. A classic ballet tutu in white or black will never go out of style. You can always dress it up or down with a cute crop top and leggings, a vintage cardigan, or a blazer.

If you're feeling more adventurous, you can try a tutu in a bolder colour or print. I love a fun tutu with bright pink, electric blue, or even a striking leopard print! Don't forget to accessorize with some ballet flats, sparkly headbands, or even some funky socks! I’ve seen everything from vintage hats to modern jewelry adorning these beauties. You’d be surprised what works and what doesn’t.

But Tutu Tuesday isn’t just about tutus – it's about dance, and it's about community. The beauty of Tutu Tuesday lies in its inclusivity. Everyone is welcome, from seasoned dancers to those just starting out, from the little ones learning their first pirouette to those who've traded their pointe shoes for sneakers and comfortable flats.

Tutu Tuesday has grown into a fantastic way to showcase and explore ballet in Canada. Across the country, local ballet studios, dance schools, and even organizations use the hashtag to celebrate local talents and connect with their community. You see everything from workshops with professional ballet dancers to student-led tutorials.

Why I Love Tutu Tuesday?

  • The Twirling Fun: It's just a ton of fun to wear a tutu! It’s a guaranteed smile. The way a tutu moves with every twirl is captivating, and it’s pure happiness. It always brightens my day.
  • Fashion and Creativity: Tutu Tuesday sparks endless possibilities for styling. You can express yourself in so many unique ways. It encourages a playful attitude and embraces experimentation.
  • Sense of Community: Sharing these moments with fellow dance enthusiasts across the globe, especially right here in my city, creates a lovely feeling of camaraderie and connection. Seeing other people enjoy themselves and celebrating their passion is inspiring.

It makes me incredibly proud to see our community embrace Tutu Tuesday with such passion and creativity!
