Tutu Tuesday in Basildon #tututuesday

It's Tuesday, which means it's time for my favourite fashion segment: Tutu Tuesday! Now, you might be thinking, "Tutus in Basildon? Surely not!" But hold on, my dears, because even the most unassuming town can blossom into a ballet-inspired haven, if you just know where to look.

I've been exploring the fashion scene of Basildon this week, and I have to say, I'm impressed! There's a real spirit of individuality here, and the locals have a keen eye for style. They might not be donning full-blown tutus for their daily commute, but there's a definite love for all things elegant and graceful, with nods to ballet in the way they wear their colours and patterns.

The biggest inspiration I found was a gorgeous vintage shop tucked away on a side street. I practically gasped when I saw the array of tutus! There were frilly tutus, feathered tutus, tutus in every shade imaginable - a real feast for the eyes. Imagine my excitement when I found a stunning, antique, white, full-length, Romantic-style tutu! It’s got such intricate details - you can tell it’s from a bygone era. It definitely needed a little TLC, but I'm planning to revamp it and wear it to the theatre for a night of elegant performance and culture.

But let's not forget the everyday tutu inspiration! In Basildon, I spotted an eclectic mix of tutu-esque fashion, that reminded me of different styles from my ballet training:

  • A 'Classical tutu' moment: The woman behind the counter in the local bakery was a vision in a fitted black pencil skirt paired with a crisp white shirt and a striking red bow. She radiated grace and precision – it was pure *Classical* style.
  • A 'Romantic tutu' inspiration: While I was queuing for a coffee at a cafe, a young girl came into the shop with her family, wearing a dreamy floral maxi dress and a sweet little straw hat. She reminded me of the flowing tutus of the Romantic ballet era – it was charming!
  • 'Modern tutu' moments: Basildon also boasts its fair share of trendy boutiques and even a local craft market. I saw a stylish group of ladies gathered at a market stall showcasing colourful handmade knitted dresses, and couldn’t resist picking up a chunky scarf, featuring beautiful geometric patterns. This contemporary, artsy take on the 'modern tutu' resonated strongly.
  • And of course, no Basildon 'Tutu Tuesday' is complete without an acknowledgment of the 'Balletcore' look that is slowly dominating fashion globally. Everywhere I looked, people were pairing sheer fabric with simple styles – from light summery blouses to ballet flats. It reminded me of the diaphanous tutus from modern ballets – so ethereal, yet strong!

Whether it’s about reworking vintage tutus or simply embracing everyday 'balletcore' elements, I discovered that Tutu Tuesday isn’t about wearing literal tutus. It’s about that spirit of beauty, grace and artistic expression that the tutus represent! This week in Basildon, I’ve been thrilled to spot how people are making the tutus and their spirit come alive in everyday looks. I've certainly found myself wanting to embrace the 'balletcore' energy and incorporate a little more grace into my everyday looks. So why don't you join me for Tutu Tuesday in Basildon next week? You might just be surprised at what you discover. Just remember, it’s all about expressing your own creativity and finding the tutu magic in your everyday life!
