Tutu Tuesday in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba #tututuesday

Hey, dance lovers! It's your girl, Anya, back with another installment of my fashion blog. Today, I'm taking Tutu Tuesday on the road and bringing you all the tutus of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba! Now, you might be thinking, "Portage la Prairie? Seriously? There's no way there's a tutu scene in the prairies!"

But, my friends, you'd be wrong. And I'm here to prove it.

First of all, Canada has a rich and vibrant ballet culture. From the world-renowned National Ballet of Canada to the smaller, local companies dotted across the country, ballet is alive and well in our great nation. And, just like the rest of the world, Canadians are obsessed with tutus!

So, with my trusty camera in hand, I hit the streets of Portage la Prairie, looking for those perfectly pouffy, perfectly pink, perfectly fabulous tutus.

A Tutusaurus Rex!

I was strolling through the downtown area, enjoying the fresh prairie air and the beautiful murals, when BAM! Right in front of me was the most impressive tutu I had ever seen in my life! It was a massive, full-skirted masterpiece. I'm talking floor-length, tiered perfection. And it was covered in sequins, glitter, and feathers. Think, "Jurassic Park meets fashion," and you'll have an idea. I swear, it looked like a Tutu-saurus Rex! It wasn't worn by a dancer - it was the centerpiece of the local arts festival and the crowds went wild. I'm pretty sure there was even a marching band with a "tutu" on their drums!

Going for Gold!

My next discovery came in the local bakery, aptly named, "Sugar Plum," a spot that obviously was destined to be on my list. While the chocolate chip cookies were absolutely killer, the best thing I saw at the bakery was their window display! Every single cookie had a little tulle crown or a ribbon on it to make it look like a miniature tutu. I mean, come on, how adorable is that?! This place, for sure, deserves a "sweet" shoutout.

Classic and Chic!

Heading over to the park I came across a dance studio that had just let out for the day. And my goodness! Those dancers came out with every tutu style imaginable! There was the classic romantic, multi-layered, "Giselle"-inspired tutu with all the frills and tulle - totally the dancer girl's go-to choice for looking graceful and poised. There were also sleek and modern ones in bold colors like cobalt blue and electric lime green. I even saw one in black that just screamed, "I'm sophisticated, I'm chic, I'm ready for a solo!"

Fashion & Function

One of the best parts of Tutu Tuesday is seeing how creative people can get with tutus! This wasn't all just classic tutus. In one shop, I even spotted a group of children dressed as tiny ballerinas. It turned out they were in a play, which gave me all the good feels. Then there was the one woman at the farmer's market who was selling unique, custom-made tutus. This particular tutu was actually a wearable piece of art! It was made from repurposed materials and had tons of different colors, patterns, and textures.

Tutu Tuesday: A Prairie Phenomenon

And there you have it! Tutu Tuesday in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. From a "Tutu-saurus Rex" to ballerinas, tutus are truly everywhere and it seems even the prairie town's got the fashion fever! If you're looking for a fun and fabulous way to celebrate ballet, I urge you to get out there, put on your best tutu, and have some fun! Iโ€™m hoping to be able to bring you more tutu magic soon.
