Tutu Tuesday in Williams Lake, BC: A Whirlwind of Tutu-tastic Style

Hey, tutu-loving friends! Itā€™s your girl, Claire, back with another installment of my beloved #tututuesday blog. This week, Iā€™m bringing you the latest from the heart of British Columbia: Williams Lake! Iā€™m here to tell you that even in this charming and adventurous town, the tutu is alive and well.

This is the heart of BC, land of lakes and mountains, and known for its rustic beauty and stunning scenery. I wouldnā€™t have thought to wear a tutu while exploring the wild beauty of this area. You might be thinking: a tutu in Williams Lake, what could it possibly mean? But as a ballerina with a passion for all things stylish and a love of sharing my tutu-inspired outfits with the world, I always find a way. My personal motto, ā€œEvery day is Tutu Tuesday if you believe in itā€, has kept me inspired on this journey to bring you #tututuesday fun from across Canada. And just wait, I haven't even shared the biggest surprise yet.

This trip to Williams Lake has been all about rediscovering the spirit of adventure and reminding me about how connected I am to this country. But my adventures didnā€™t start on the dance floor. I dove right into the heart of the city with a guided walking tour of the downtown area and Williams Lake Museum and Art Gallery. What was striking was that this city has a vibrant arts community - local art exhibitions, theatre events, and music festivals. While there is plenty to see and do outdoors, they truly take their cultural offerings seriously and embrace the creativity and innovation, making this a dynamic place for all to enjoy. And this brought me to my big surprise: I was delighted to stumble across a beautiful and traditional, locally owned ballet studio where students from all walks of life take dance lessons, share their love for movement and prepare for exciting recitals and events.

And speaking of tutus, I got to share some tutu style with the students - I learned all about their favourite styles. It turned out there were so many fun designs and colours!

  • I learned all about romantic tutus, flowing with a lightweight tulle, perfect for classical ballet.
  • I discovered ā€œAmerican Ballet Theatre tutus,ā€ which I had never heard of before. This one has more of a fitted silhouette and a pointed-toe look, popular in contemporary dance routines.
  • And you already know about the ā€œballet tutu,ā€ that super fluffy tutu with layers and layers of tulle, ideal for performances of ā€œSwan Lakeā€ or other classically beloved ballets. It is just too stunning, I wish I could dance on stage in a grand, classic white, perfect, traditional, big ballet tutu. I could imagine being a sugar plum fairy, just twirling, twirling, twirling.

But this wasn't just about tutus, my friends! It was about embracing the tutu's magic and expressing creativity. In Williams Lake, this town embrace art in a way I would have never expected. Whether itā€™s dancing at a ballet studio or simply incorporating tutu-inspired fashion into your everyday look, Tutu Tuesday was a celebration of the joy of being alive and connected, with all that is good in the world.

I leave you today with a thought to consider. The essence of Tutu Tuesday goes far beyond wearing tutus; itā€™s about adding a touch of fun and whimsy to the ordinary, injecting a little ballet into your everyday, and making you feel great. Embrace the creativity in you and let yourself be seen in all your glorious, fun-loving glory! See you next time, tutu friends!

XOXO, Claire
