Tutu Tuesday in Coldstream, British Columbia: A Tutu-tastic Celebration! #tututuesday

Hey everyone! It's your girl, Clara, here, bringing you another dose of all things ballet and fashion from right here in the beautiful Okanagan Valley. And what better day to talk about tutus than Tuesday, eh? That's right, it's Tutu Tuesday!

For those of you new to this magical day, Tutu Tuesday is all about celebrating the iconic, fluffy, and endlessly enchanting garment that is the ballet tutu. From the classic, multi-layered Romantic tutus to the modern, contemporary variations, the tutu is a symbol of grace, artistry, and pure joy. And trust me, there's no better place to celebrate this magical garment than in Coldstream, British Columbia.

We all know that Canadian ballet has a rich history. Just think of Canada's renowned national ballet company, the National Ballet of Canada, right there in Toronto, Ontario, or even the incredible talent that comes out of the beautiful Royal Winnipeg Ballet. Now, even though I’m from out here in the Okanagan, I know those east coast folks can make their tutus POP! Just check out their instagram reels.

Today, I'm taking you on a little tour of my own tutu wardrobe. My collection isn't as grand as some of the big names in the ballet world, but it holds some special pieces. It wouldn’t be Tutu Tuesday if I wasn’t going to tell you about a few of my favourite tutu styles. I am totally obsessed with my:

  • Romantic Tutu: These beauties are like swirling clouds of tulle, perfect for classic ballets like Giselle. Think layers and layers of delicate netting, giving that airy and ethereal feel. I'm not going to lie, sometimes it takes a little time and dedication to put on these tulle extravaganzas, but I swear it’s worth it every time! You’ll float right into character as you enter the stage.
  • Bell Tutu: For those who love a bit of drama and flair, the bell tutu is where it's at! These have this beautifully curved shape, with layers that radiate out from the waist, like a full flower blossoming. It's an iconic look for any ballerina wanting to feel bold and stunning.
  • Contemporary Tutu : For a more minimalist and modern feel, I can’t forget the contemporary tutu! Sometimes we need a simpler garment and less to worry about in performance. The modern variations, for those of you that don't know, allow for so much creativity in design and materials, often focusing on shape and flow over traditional volume and construction.

And let’s face it, even if you’re not a ballerina (and hey, there's nothing wrong with being a tutu-enthusiast even if you don't dance!), there's no denying that a tutu is a statement piece that can be rocked just about anywhere! I can think of a few examples…

  • **Wear a Tutu to a Costume Party:** Trust me, it’s bound to turn heads. You’ll be the life of the party!
  • Dance in a Tutu on the Beach! Seriously. There's something wonderfully freeing about doing your own rendition of the dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy at sunset.
  • Strut Your Stuff on Your Birthday. It's a bold choice. But if you don't do it now, you'll never get a chance!

Whether you're a dancer or simply someone who appreciates a little whimsy, embrace Tutu Tuesday and don't be afraid to spread some ballet-inspired joy. Who knows, maybe it will inspire you to find your inner swan, or maybe you just want to try on that cute fluffy costume at the local dancewear shop and let your imagination run wild! #tututuesday

Until next time, happy twirling!
