Tutu Tuesday in Rawdon, Quebec: A Whirlwind of Tutu Styles

Hey everyone! It's your favourite ballet blogger, Sarah, here, bringing you a dose of tutu-licious fun straight from the charming town of Rawdon, Quebec. Today, we're celebrating the iconic tutu, and trust me, you won't want to miss this. #tututuesday

For those unfamiliar, #tututuesday is a weekly event where ballet dancers, fashion enthusiasts, and anyone who appreciates the beauty of a tutu gather to show off their favourite tutus and celebrate this elegant piece of dancewear. It's a fantastic way to share our passion, get inspired, and bring a little bit of sparkle to the world.

Here in Canada, we have a rich and vibrant ballet scene, with amazing companies and talented dancers in every corner of the country. It's incredible to see the dedication and artistry displayed in every performance, and of course, the dazzling tutus that bring those performances to life. So, imagine my delight when I learned that Rawdon, a town just outside Montreal, was hosting a #tututuesday event. I just couldn't miss it!

I arrived at the town square, eager to see the tutu creations. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement, as locals, tourists and fellow dance lovers came together, each adorned in their most spectacular tutu. The range of styles was incredible - we had classic romantic tutus, with layers of delicate tulle and romantic details, some adorned with shimmering sequins, others with delicate floral motifs. We even saw some modern tutus, featuring geometric shapes and unexpected fabrics like velvet and lace. Some were traditional pink and white, while others dared to stand out with bolder shades, emerald greens, midnight blues, and vibrant purples.

Here are some of my personal favorites from the day:

  • The Classic Romantic Tutu: A beautiful pale pink tutu with multiple layers of tulle and a fitted bodice, reminiscent of the grand ballerinas of the 19th century.
  • The Edgy Contemporary Tutu: A black, asymmetrical tutu, made with a mix of tulle and feathers. The cut was quite different from traditional tutus, with one side flowing long and the other cut short to the thigh. A bold and modern interpretation that really turned heads.
  • The Rainbow Tutu: This bright and vibrant tutu was a delightful burst of color. Every layer was a different colour of the rainbow, making it a fun and optimistic statement. This is a perfect tutu to dance and play around in!
  • The Flower Power Tutu: This was my personal favorite, and definitely the one that grabbed my attention the most. Inspired by nature and the delicate artistry of a bouquet, it was created with pastel colors, featuring silk ribbons tied together in a way to simulate the flow and sway of flowers on a stem. The overall effect was quite beautiful.

After taking in all the tutus, the day was far from over! We were treated to a performance by a group of local ballet students, and let me tell you, they were phenomenal! The energy, talent, and dedication of these young dancers was inspiring, they absolutely captured the audience with their moves and incredible control.

Of course, no tutu celebration would be complete without a tutu-making workshop! We were invited to participate in a fun and hands-on workshop, learning the art of creating our own tutus. We were taught how to select materials, shape the tulle, and add beautiful embellishments to our creations. It was truly a fantastic experience for those who want to try their hand at creating their own tutus!

Rawdon's Tutu Tuesday was such a special event. It brought together ballet enthusiasts, fashion lovers, and people of all ages, uniting us in our appreciation for this wonderful piece of dancewear. It's truly a testament to the vibrant culture of ballet and the magic that happens when people come together to celebrate their love of the arts.

Don't forget to share your own tutu photos on social media, and make sure to use the hashtags #tututuesday and #rawdon.

See you next time,

Sarah.
