Tutu Tuesday in Saint-Felicien, Quebec: A Tutu-tastic Time!
Hey everyone! It's your girl, Chloe, back with another edition of my Tutu Tuesday blog. This week, I decided to swap the bright lights of the big city for a charming little town in Quebec: Saint-Felicien! And let me tell you, this place is tutu-tastic!
Saint-Felicien is known for its stunning scenery and its rich history, but I discovered another gem: the vibrant ballet community! I was so excited to find a whole bunch of talented dancers here, sharing their passion for this beautiful art form. The community is abuzz with tutu-themed events, workshops, and performances. It's just a testament to the strong bond that ballet has in Canada, especially in places like Saint-Felicien.
So, what’s going on with tutu styles in Saint-Felicien?
  • Firstly, I have to mention the traditional tutus. While I wouldn't say it’s an entirely classic look, there is an air of tradition in this region. There's this beautiful old theatre in the heart of town, and the dancers were rocking these long, multi-layered tulle tutus – classic ballerina silhouettes that had a hint of romanticism. The colour choices, too, went for some really nice neutrals with shades of ivory, rose and powder blue. A real vintage feel!

  • Now, let's move onto the modern stuff. It's not just about the classic romantic tutu styles here. You'll see so many contemporary designs – shorter tutus in bright, bold colours, perfect for modern ballets with those dynamic moves! I spotted this beautiful emerald green one at a dance studio – seriously stunning, and you can see why modern choreographers are going nuts for those brighter shades!

  • One thing I loved in this part of Quebec is their willingness to experiment with textures. They weren't afraid to incorporate sequins, metallic fabrics, even some intricate lace work! One ballerina showed me a gorgeous custom tutu, she had her teacher create it for her. The base layer was white tulle but then, on top, she layered lace – this black, lacy fabric with these delicate floral designs, just breathtaking! She called it her "Fairy of the Forest" tutu, haha. That just shows the love for these traditional forms but the way they add their own little twist.

Where to See the Tutues in Action
One of my favorite spots for spotting tutus was the "Danse En Fêtes" event, a giant community dance festival. Imagine an entire street transformed with dance stages, musicians, food stalls – it's all about the joy of movement! It's truly something to behold, and the tutus just added to the magic.
Also, there's the "École de Danse La Chaumière," one of the oldest dance studios in Saint-Felicien. You should definitely stop by for a class. The students, both young and adults, were dressed in tutus from every era imaginable. It’s a mix of old-school and contemporary that totally brings that fun, playful vibe to this amazing place.
Beyond the Tutus
The highlight of my visit had to be this special performance by the local ballet company. The dancers were absolutely incredible! And, like, I mean, just wow! So, if you ever find yourself in this cute little town, try to catch their next show, you’re going to be absolutely amazed by their talent! They even have these unique dance workshops. Like a few weekends ago they did one themed around Native Canadian storytelling and dance styles – mind-blowing stuff!

One thing that truly stands out to me is that Saint-Felicien really does have this charming little-town feel. Everywhere I go, people were so welcoming. And you can tell they love their arts scene! It's about creating community and sharing something beautiful. It makes me proud to be a part of the Canadian dance world.

Tutu Tuesday, Saint-Felicien Style: A Final Thought
As my time in Saint-Felicien came to a close, I couldn't help but think: what an amazing community with a beautiful story to tell through dance! You see the energy they put into the dance events, the pride the town has in its schools and studios, and that infectious passion from both the seasoned pros and the beginners. It’s a special feeling to be a part of! It’s that passion that makes Tutu Tuesdays like this truly magical!
Until next time, keep twirling and let the tutus inspire you!
