Tutu Tuesday in Kitimat, British Columbia, Canada #tututuesday

Hey everyone, it's your favourite Canadian ballerina, Chloe here, coming to you live from Kitimat, British Columbia. The sun is shining, the mountains are breathtaking (as always) and I’m feeling absolutely fabulous in my tutu! It's Tutu Tuesday, y'all, and this week's theme is "Canadian Chic"!

I mean, what's more Canadian than a sunny day on the coast and a ballet tutu, right? This week, I'm sporting a classic romantic tutu with a few twists that are truly Canadian – and dare I say, uniquely Kitimat-inspired!

For starters, my tutu is made from a beautiful shimmering turquoise fabric, reflecting the icy blue waters of the Douglas Channel. It’s the perfect contrast to the rich greens of the forests surrounding Kitimat.

But wait, there’s more. I’ve incorporated some unique design elements for my Tutu Tuesday look.

  • I’ve added a cascade of sparkling silver sequins along the bottom of my tutu, just like the glittering ice that graces the surrounding mountains in the winter.
  • To complete my Canadian look, I’ve paired my tutu with a chunky knitted sweater and a pair of warm leather boots, a must-have for any Kitimat fashionista, even during our sunny days.

Honestly, it’s this kind of flexibility that I love about ballet! We get to mix it up and bring our own flair to classic pieces. There's no single right way to wear a tutu, and that’s a huge part of the joy – it's an expression of personal style, and you can wear it with anything! And in Kitimat, that translates into something that can withstand even the most challenging weather.

As for ballet in Canada, well, the scene here is definitely buzzing! Kitimat is actually a hidden gem when it comes to the arts, and it's so inspiring to see the talent coming out of our local dance studios and schools. Just last week, I was lucky enough to attend a performance by the Kitimat Youth Ballet and was completely blown away. Their talent and passion shone through in every dance move.

Whether it's a classic, traditional tutu, a whimsical contemporary one, or a totally unique creation (like mine this week!), we dancers in Canada have a special way of making ballet our own. And honestly, there’s no other way I’d want it.

This Tutu Tuesday, I'm calling on everyone, from Kitimat to Calgary to Toronto, to share your own unique tutu looks! Use #tututuesday to show off your styles and let's celebrate ballet's incredible ability to inspire and connect us. Who knows, you might even inspire your local ballet schools to come up with their own Tutu Tuesday theme!

And if you happen to be in Kitimat, keep your eyes peeled! You might even catch me doing a little impromptu twirling around town.

Happy dancing everyone!

Love,

Chloe
