Tutu Tuesday in Dryden, Ontario: A Dance with Tradition and Style #tututuesday

Hey fellow dance lovers! It’s your girl, Amelia here, bringing you the latest and greatest from the world of ballet (and tutus, obviously!). Today’s post is all about celebrating the iconic tutu – a garment that’s synonymous with dance, grace, and pure elegance.

For #TutuTuesday, I decided to hit the streets of my hometown, Dryden, Ontario. Yes, you heard that right – ballet in a small Canadian town! While Dryden might not be known for its big-city ballet scene, the passion for dance runs deep, and there’s no shortage of talented dancers in this community. It’s all about celebrating the beauty of ballet wherever we are. We Canadians have a special love for this art form, and that’s definitely true in the smaller communities as well.

Now, back to the tutus! A lot of people think tutus are just frilly little things, but let me tell you, there’s so much variety and artistry within the world of tutu styles.

  • There’s the **classic Romantic tutu**, with its tiers of delicate, floating tulle. Perfect for expressing lightness and ethereal beauty – just think Giselle!
  • Then there’s the **tight-fitting tutu**, often made from heavier fabric like satin. This one’s a showstopper, perfect for showcasing the strength and athleticism of the dancer – think the ballerinas of the late 19th and early 20th centuries!
  • We can’t forget the **tutu à la Française** which is an explosion of tulle in a multilayered, circular form. Just picture Aurora from The Sleeping Beauty!

And don't even get me started on the colours! From classic white to bold colours like emerald green, royal blue, and fiery red – the colours of a tutu tell their own story. And that's something you just don’t get with other forms of clothing. Tut us are unique pieces that demand attention, showcasing the dancer's skills and beauty with every whirl and pirouette.

So how can YOU celebrate Tutu Tuesday, wherever you are? Here are my ideas!

  • Break out your favorite tutu (or the one that's been gathering dust in the back of your closet – go on, it deserves some air!). Take some pics and tag #TutuTuesday!
  • Support your local dance studio. Give your favorite dancer a shout out, take a class, or contribute to a fundraiser – let's spread the love for dance in our communities!
  • Do a quick tutu-inspired search on the internet. Look at pics of the beautiful costumes in professional productions – they really inspire you, I promise. The design and artistry is amazing, you’ll be so impressed!
  • Take the time to learn more about ballet's rich history. Ballet is not just about twirls, it's about artistic expression, power, storytelling, and traditions that span centuries.
  • In my home town of Dryden, I decided to do my own tutu walk down Main Street. Of course I wore my favorite tutu. It’s a baby-pink satin tutu à la Française with white trim and little pearl embellishments ( I told you, it’s a statement piece!), I even made a quick little ballet-inspired dance routine to celebrate my favorite type of garment.

So go on, grab that tutu! Show the world what you've got! It's #TutuTuesday! I’m spreading tutu love all day! #Tutuday!
