Tutu Tuesday in Carbonear, Newfoundland and Labrador: A Whirlwind of Tutus and Tradition #tututuesday

Hey everyone! It’s your girl, Clara, back with another installment of Tutu Tuesday. This week, I decided to take my tutu-wearing adventures to a charming little town in Newfoundland and Labrador, Carbonear, to be precise. As a Canadian ballerina with a passion for the performing arts, I'm always on the lookout for unique ways to explore and celebrate the beauty of dance in all its forms. And let me tell ya, Carbonear has a lot of character! The streets are lined with colourful Victorian-era homes and bustling little shops. It was the perfect backdrop for a Tutu Tuesday photoshoot that celebrated the rich heritage of Canadian dance.

Now, if you’re unfamiliar with the whole Tutu Tuesday thing, let me break it down for you. It’s this little tradition I started to spread joy and spark conversation about the love of dance – whether it be classical ballet, contemporary, or any style that makes your heart beat faster. Every week, I head out in a tutu – it might be a classic, frilly, and voluminous one or something more contemporary with a clean and modern look. And wherever I go, I meet people from all walks of life. This week was extra special, as Carbonear embraced Tutu Tuesday with open arms! The locals were incredibly friendly and thrilled to be part of the celebration.

What I loved most about this experience was the community spirit in Carbonear. Every passerby gave me a huge smile and a friendly wave. Even some kids ran up to me, saying they’d been practicing their pirouettes and asking if I was a real ballerina! And the best part? It all stemmed from a simple tutu! It’s proof that dance transcends language barriers and creates connections.

This week, I went for a romantic, vintage look in a white tulle tutu. I paired it with a simple black leotard, a chic headband adorned with tiny pearl flowers and some gorgeous ballet flats. It felt incredibly elegant and ethereal. To complete the look, I had a beautiful floral bouquet – a nod to the blooming flowers in Carbonear's gardens.

Here’s a glimpse into what went down on my Tutu Tuesday adventure in Carbonear:

  • Gracing the steps of The Carbonear Playhouse. This iconic historic theatre is an integral part of the community. Its elegant exterior and the energy radiating from it made me want to dance my way into a magical performance. I channeled my inner ballerina and took a few spins in front of the grand theatre facade.
  • Ballerina Bliss by the Bay. I’m not one to shy away from a beautiful landscape. I went to the shoreline of Conception Bay to enjoy the stunning views of the endless ocean. The light breeze on my skin, the rhythmic crashing of waves against the shore – the symphony of nature accompanied my ballet movements and the billowing of my tulle.
  • Tutu-rific Tea Time at The Cottage Inn. I discovered a cozy spot for a proper tea break: The Cottage Inn. This charming place, a beacon of traditional charm, served the most delectable English scones and a delightful selection of teas. Their decor, filled with delicate porcelain and vintage accents, felt like a time machine transporting me to a charming English countryside afternoon.
  • Street-side Sassafras. As the sun started to set, casting a warm glow over Carbonear, I wandered through the town’s main street. I saw many adorable shops, the charming architecture – every corner was picture-perfect! And of course, it was time for a few dance moves. The lively music from an open-air coffee shop added a fantastic touch to my spontaneous ballerina moment.

My trip to Carbonear has reinforced the notion that Tutu Tuesday isn’t just a fun little dance; it's about breaking the ice, igniting a sense of wonder and embracing the magic of ballet wherever life takes you.

This Tutu Tuesday in Carbonear proved that you can experience joy and find a connection to the arts in unexpected places.

Keep your eyes peeled for next week’s Tutu Tuesday and until then, keep on twirling!
