Tutu Tuesday in Armstrong, BC: #tututuesday It's Tutu Tuesday, my favourite day of the week! It's time to let loose our inner prima ballerinas, channel our best Tchaikovsky and shimmy in our favourite twirly tutus! And Armstrong, BC is no exception! We're all about embracing the ballet love and showing off some seriously elegant looks. It’s hard to believe that I started dancing when I was 4 years old. Like so many others, I got hooked watching "The Nutcracker" on Christmas, totally enthralled by the gorgeous tutus and all the magic on stage. It’s amazing what the ballet can do for the spirit, for the heart and soul! My Nana's love of "Giselle", "Swan Lake" and "The Sleeping Beauty" definitely contributed to my infatuation. Those ballerinas with their romantic tulle tutus, perfect poupees and amazing leaps and turns just totally hooked me! Now that I'm living and dancing in the Okanagan, it feels so good to have this creative outlet. There's something very freeing about wearing a tulle tutu and swirling around to the strains of Tchaikovsky or Rachmaninoff! My personal fave is definitely the Romantic era - I love the way the big romantic tutus just float. The big puffy skirts with the wispy, delicate tulle are perfect for getting air. Some of the older tutus in the collection at our local ballet school are absolute works of art!
**The Love for Dance and Tutu Tuesday** I remember once, we had this awesome production of "Giselle" - I think I must have been about 15 - and all of us ballerinas got brand new tutus with multi-layered tulle and exquisite hand-stitched embroidery. It was such a privilege to don those magical costumes. It made the entire dance feel even more special and magical!
Here are some reasons to join the #tututuesday movement:
- **Boost your mood:** Dancing makes you happy. Period! So getting all decked out in a tutu, putting on your fave ballet music and pirouetting around your living room - it’s sure to brighten your day and bring out your inner sparkle! - **Show off your style**: It’s time to channel your inner fashionista! The world of tutus is so full of personality, and there’s a tutu out there for everyone! There’s nothing more flattering than a big tulle tutu for all the girlies out there who want to feel absolutely fabulous and absolutely elegant! There are also some cool contemporary tutus out there if you prefer a modern edge! - **Spread the love for dance:** #tututuesday is all about sharing the joy of dance! There’s no reason why dance should just be about professionals. It’s something anyone can enjoy - all ages, all shapes and sizes! If you’re a recreational dancer or you've never even had a lesson before – I encourage you to just get up, put on some music and try some dance moves. Trust me, you’ll be hooked after one pirouette!
