Neepawa, Manitoba: Tutu Tuesday and a Glimpse of Canadian Ballet
Hey, dance enthusiasts! It's your favourite Canadian ballet blogger, back with another fashion-forward post. Today's topic? The oh-so-adorable Tutu Tuesday. And where better to celebrate this whimsical occasion than in the charming town of Neepawa, Manitoba. It's true, folks, you can find fashion inspiration anywhere in Canada – even in a small town!
First, a little history on Tutu Tuesday for those new to the scene. For over a decade now, every Tuesday has been dedicated to embracing the elegance and joy of ballet. Think of it as a call to arms for dance lovers across the world to don their tutus, whether it's for a full-on performance at a ballet class or just a stroll through the park. The fun isn't limited to the traditional styles; tutu Tuesday encompasses a spectrum of tutus – think Romantic tutus with their romantic, soft and wispy aesthetic, the structured and powerful Neoclassical tutus, or maybe even the cheeky and playfully short versions often seen in the final scene of a ballet performance. It's a time to show off your inner ballerina, and to have a bit of fun with it!
My quest for Tutu Tuesday in Neepawa led me to the bustling centre of the town – an idyllic town square, perfect for taking photos in your tutu, you know what I mean! I couldn't resist grabbing a couple of selfies with the old town clock in the background. I’m sporting my favourite Romantic tutu, featuring multiple layers of tulle in shades of ivory and blush pink, for a classic and whimsical look. The lightness and floatiness of the tutu really felt like the perfect expression of my love for the ballet – and for all things charming and beautiful.
While I may not have seen fellow tutu-clad dancers in Neepawa this particular Tuesday, I certainly didn't feel out of place. I'm used to a few curious stares when I don my tutu, but Canadians are a friendly lot and I felt accepted right away – after all, Canadian Ballet is such a vibrant part of Canadian arts and culture, I knew there would be fellow dance lovers all around me!
