Tutu Tuesday in Nipawin, Saskatchewan: A Celebration of Dance & Fashion #tututuesday

Hey dance fam, I'm back with another Tutu Tuesday post and today we’re celebrating the beautiful and diverse world of tutus! I’m always blown away by the sheer creativity and artistry that goes into each tutu design – from the classic, romantic, to the edgy and modern. It’s all about finding that perfect piece that brings out your inner ballerina and, honestly, who doesn't feel a little bit like royalty when they slip on a tutu? Right?

Speaking of royalty, let's dive into the history of the tutu! It wasn't always the iconic, whimsical garment it is today. Back in the day, dancers were literally just wearing layers and layers of petticoats! It wasn't until the 19th century that the tutu, as we know it, came to be. Thanks to Marie Taglioni, a revolutionary dancer, and Charles-Louis Didelot, a talented choreographer, we got the first “real” tutu!

Now, tutu styles have exploded – and rightfully so! There's a whole range of styles, each with its own distinct character and purpose. From the classic **romantic tutu**, all wispy and graceful, to the bold and dramatic **dramatic tutu** and the modern **contemporary tutu**, there's a tutu for everyone! Even the iconic **practice tutu** makes its mark! I have a classic **pink practice tutu**, which I love. It's perfect for classes, and a must have if you’re a ballet student or an up-and-coming professional.

What are my current fav styles?

  • **Romantic tutus** with their delicate layers, tulle and frills! Those airy, elegant designs always get my heart racing.
  • **Contemporary tutus**, I think those can be absolutely breathtaking. There's such an amazing mix of traditional elements with a more modern, edgy feel! Those abstract shapes, flowing lines and often interesting fabrics. Love that contrast!

And don’t forget about the **pas de deux**! You know those iconic duets in classical ballets? The tutus for those usually make for stunning visuals. They really show how the artistry of the tutu can enhance the dramatic effect of the performance. Can’t leave out those incredible, sparkly, and eye-catching tutus!

So there you have it – the exciting world of the tutu, a wardrobe essential that deserves more attention! Remember, don’t let the beautiful, dramatic and unique nature of the tutu slip from your memory! It is much more than a mere costume. It embodies so much history, innovation, and grace!

And on that note, remember to keep an eye out for #tututuesday! What are some of your favorite styles? Hit me up with a comment, I’d love to see your picks!
