Tutu Tuesday in Caraquet, New Brunswick: A Whirlwind of Feathers and Froth

Hey everyone! It's your girl, Claire, back with another post! This week, I’m taking you to the beautiful town of Caraquet in New Brunswick, a place that’s got as much charm as a perfectly executed pirouette.

Today is #TutuTuesday, and I'm all about embracing my inner ballerina, but even more than that, it's about celebrating the love of dance across the country. I mean, come on, we all have that inner child who just wants to twirl around in a fluffy skirt! It’s time to put on our pointe shoes (or just some comfy sneakers!), grab a cup of maple latte (gotta represent!), and spread the joy of dance.

Now, I gotta admit, Tutu Tuesday wouldn’t be complete without some tulle talk. Today, we’re rocking the classic Romantic Tutu. You know, the ones with the layers upon layers of gauzy, soft tulle. The epitome of graceful femininity. And the thing about the Romantic Tutu is that it's all about movement! With every flick of the leg, it flows and swishes like a soft summer breeze. Imagine twirling in the breeze along the scenic Acadian Coast with that picturesque view. That's a #TutuTuesday dream come true.

Speaking of the Acadian Coast, Caraquet is nestled in this stunning region, known for its stunning scenery, and guess what? Dance is part of this town’s vibrant cultural scene! Just yesterday, I visited the Centre culturel de Caraquet, a beautiful venue for dance performances and arts events. You guys have no idea how much it warmed my dancer heart to see young ballet students practice their fouetté turns in that space! You could almost feel the energy in the air!

But Tutu Tuesday isn’t just about being in the studio or performing on stage. It’s also about celebrating dance in its everyday forms. Think about it: Dancing in the kitchen while whipping up a batch of freshly baked Breton biscuits, or swaying to the rhythmic beats of a local fiddle group, or simply feeling the rhythm in your heart.

This little slice of New Brunswick gave me that same warm feeling I get while dancing with a group, that genuine camaraderie that resonates so well with this ballet-obsessed soul. I truly believe it's that connection that’s vital. We need more places like Caraquet where culture is intertwined with community! It makes me proud to be a Canadian and it makes me excited for future dance opportunities right in my own backyard.

Here are a few tips for enjoying Tutu Tuesday wherever you are, so go ahead and spread the love:

  • Share a dance memory. I remember a recital in high school, a perfect double pirouette... you can share a favorite recital memory. Maybe that awkward moment in grade 5 when you tripped and laughed. Dance memories are GOLD.
  • Share your dance-related outfit. Don't be afraid to break out the legwarmers. Let's celebrate the classic, chic look we wear while heading to the studio.
  • Check out a local dance studio. Even if you aren’t planning to dance, stopping by to show some love and check out local studios, a dance recital or a performance, even dropping in to cheer on a young ballerina on their first solo— every small gesture is important.

Until next time, happy twirling, my fellow dancers! Stay connected with me on social media— you can find me on Twitter @balletclaire and on Instagram @ClaireBalle! Don’t forget to hashtag #tututuesday so I can check out all the dancing joy you are sharing!
