Tutu Tuesday in Westville, Nova Scotia: A Celebration of Ballet and Whimsy

Hey there, fellow dance lovers! It's your girl, Chloe, back with another exciting blog post about all things tutu. Today, we're diving headfirst into the vibrant world of ballet in Nova Scotia, with a special emphasis on the ever-so-lovely town of Westville. Yes, you heard me right - Westville! A place brimming with charming old houses and a strong sense of community, Westville is also home to a hidden gem, a ballet studio bursting with young talent. This past Tuesday was **Tutu Tuesday** in Westville and, oh my goodness, it was a sight to behold.

From the moment I stepped into the studio, I was enveloped in a sea of twirling tutus. The energy was electric! The students were beaming with joy, each one adorned in their very own unique tutus. I saw a vibrant assortment of colours – blush pink, electric blue, and classic white – all flowing gracefully as they practised their plies and arabesques. This wasn’t a stuffy, rigid ballet class. It was about exploration, experimentation, and of course, having a whole lotta fun. That’s why we created the #tututuesday hashtag, after all, it’s all about enjoying dance!

And what would a #tututuesday be without some variety? The tutu styles were as diverse as the personalities in the room. We had the traditional Romantic tutus, with their billowing layers of tulle, making the dancers look like ethereal ballerinas right out of a fairytale. There were also some edgy modern tutus, featuring daring cuts and a contemporary edge, reminding me of some of the amazing work we’ve seen in Toronto, but here we are in Nova Scotia, Westville. How fun is this?! Then there were those super adorable petit tutus, perfect for the pint-sized dancers who stole the show with their undeniable charm. Seeing the kids dressed in such exquisite attire truly filled my heart with happiness. Every time I witness little ballerinas, it reminds me why we do this, why ballet is so important. And I think those feelings are exactly why Tutu Tuesday was created, too. It’s a fun reason for everyone to come together, and celebrate this art.

What truly captivated me about this #tututuesday event in Westville, Nova Scotia, was the way it celebrated both the art and the heart of ballet. This wasn’t just a dance class; it was a joyous gathering of souls united by a shared passion. It was a moment where age, experience, or skill level didn’t matter; what mattered was the pure joy of moving to the rhythm of music and expressing yourself through the magic of dance.

As the afternoon drew to a close, and I said my goodbyes to the wonderful people of Westville, I couldn’t help but feel inspired by the spirit of #tututuesday. It’s a celebration of not only the beautiful art of ballet but also the power of community and the unwavering pursuit of joy through dance.

For those of you out there, especially those in Canada, who are looking to rediscover the magic of ballet, I encourage you to step outside your comfort zone and embrace the world of #tututuesday. Let’s bring a touch of whimsical joy and colourful tulle to every corner of Canada! Now, I want to hear from you! Tell me all about your #tututuesday experiences - how did you embrace it? What's your favorite tutu style? Did you create your own tutu day at your ballet school?

Keep those tutus twirling and the smiles wide, my friends.

Much love,

Chloe
