Tutu Tuesday in McDougall, Ontario: A Celebration of Ballet and Fashion

Hey fellow dance enthusiasts! It’s your girl, Anya, from the Canadian Ballet Blog, back again to bring you another dose of everything dance! It’s #tututuesday, and that means one thing: it's time to talk tutus!

As a ballet dancer who’s been lucky enough to tour all over Canada and perform on some incredible stages, I have to say, there’s nothing quite like slipping on a perfect tutu and hitting the stage.

But today, let’s take it back to the streets. You don’t have to be on stage to show your love for this iconic garment! That’s why I’m starting a new movement: Tutu Tuesday in McDougall.

Here's how I'm making it happen: every Tuesday, I'm rocking a tutu and encouraging my fellow dance lovers (and anyone else who wants to join!) to do the same! We can make this happen. Imagine, the streets of McDougall awash in tulle, every Tuesday. Let’s get those tutus out there!

Of course, I'm not expecting everyone to pull out their full-on pointe shoes and tutus. This is all about celebrating dance, fashion, and having fun. But let’s talk about the various types of tutus for a minute! We can start with a simple, classic tutu with tulle and a layer of cotton underneath.

For those who want a bit more flair, a romantic tutu, often with multiple layers of tulle for added volume and a floral embellishment, can be just the thing to add to your Tuesday outfit.

What about a demi-tutu? They're perfect for the busy lady because they have a skirt length that hits right above the knee. So whether you're running errands, going to class, or just heading to grab a coffee with friends, this kind of tutu is a fun and wearable choice for Tutu Tuesday. And they make a great statement even when you pair them with a plain sweater.

Of course, you can never go wrong with a classic ballet tutu— perfect for any level of experience. And they're all the rage in ballet schools around the world and, let’s be honest, everywhere from NYC to here in Ontario. But my favourite is the tutus I make myself – a combination of vintage materials, a dash of contemporary flare and, of course, tons of sparkly details. It's about making a personal style statement.

I'm already seeing a bunch of amazing photos on Instagram! Keep tagging your tutu looks #tututuesday in McDougall so we can share this celebration of ballet with the whole world!

Remember, this isn’t just about rocking a tutu! Tutu Tuesday in McDougall is about spreading a message of creativity, expression, and confidence. It's about remembering that you're a dancer, no matter where you are or what you do in life.

So put on your favourite tutu, snap a pic, and show off your dance spirit!

I'm excited to see what you all come up with for #tututuesday! And remember, when it comes to fashion, always make sure you're wearing something that makes you feel beautiful, empowered, and most importantly, like you can conquer anything! And maybe do a few pirouettes to top it off! I’ll be keeping an eye on those hashtags! Let's go, McDougall!
