Tutu Tuesday in Unity, Saskatchewan: A Tutu-licious Celebration!

#tututuesday

Hey everyone! It's your girl, Claire, back with another fabulously fashionable blog post. Today we're venturing outside the bustling ballet studios of Toronto and into the heart of Saskatchewan, to the charming town of Unity. You see, Unity has something pretty special brewing – a celebration of all things tutu, a weekly ritual of tutus, twirls and sheer tulle-tastic joy. It's called, you guessed it, Tutu Tuesday!

Now, for those of you unfamiliar with the captivating world of tutus, let me introduce you to this glorious piece of ballet history. A tutu is essentially a ballerina's uniform – a skirt crafted with layers upon layers of soft, flowing fabric. From the classic romantic tutu, billowing with tiers of tulle, to the playful and whimsical pas de basque tutu, every style has its own character and history. In fact, I'd wager a bet there are more tutu styles than there are grains of sand on a beach. But today, we're focused on the grandest celebration of them all, Unity’s Tutu Tuesday!

Every Tuesday, the town transforms. Imagine quaint, brick buildings adorned with whimsical, vibrant ribbons, fluttering gently in the wind. It’s like stepping into a fairytale. As you walk down the cobblestone streets, you'll catch glimpses of Tutu Tuesdays: local artisans showcasing handmade tutus, cafes serving up tutus-inspired pastries, even a street performance with dancers twirling in all sorts of colourful tutus.

What really captivated me was the dedication of the local residents. They’re not just participating – they’re fully embracing the joy and whimsy. There was a grandma sporting a vintage tutu, her face radiating joy, as she proudly told stories of her late daughter’s ballerina days. A group of teenagers were showing off their handcrafted, sparkly tutus, the excitement in their eyes as vibrant as the glitter adorning their tutus.

Unity, Saskatchewan has definitely taken the Tutu Tuesday initiative to the next level. It’s a unique blend of community spirit and passion for dance and the performing arts.

If you find yourself in Unity on a Tuesday, here’s what I recommend you do:

  • Visit The Tutu Gallery – a pop-up gallery that features local artists who create beautiful tutus and dance-themed art. They have everything from intricately embroidered ballet shoes to captivating sculptures capturing the essence of graceful leaps and delicate balances.
  • Enjoy a tutu-themed afternoon tea at the quaint Unity Tea Room. Don't be surprised to see the servers wearing charming, vintage tutus, serving dainty pastries and tea with elegant lace doilies.
  • Head over to the Town Square to catch the lively Tutu Tuesday parade. This colourful procession features a mix of local dancers, singers, and musicians who proudly display their dance-themed ensembles and tutus. It's truly a feast for the eyes, and it'll definitely get your heart racing and your toes tapping!

This week, Unity will host an exceptional, tutu-inspired, craft and art fair, which I plan to attend, so keep an eye out for an exclusive update on my Instagram and on the blog.

Remember folks, let's spread the Tutu Tuesday magic across Canada and beyond! So go on, let loose and embrace the joy and playfulness of tutus.
