Tutu Tuesday in Elkford, British Columbia: A Tutu-ful Day Out!

Hey there, fellow dance lovers and fashion enthusiasts! It’s your girl, Claire, here, and let me tell you, Tutu Tuesday in Elkford, British Columbia, was a total blast! As a dancer myself, and a huge fan of all things fabulous, I couldn't resist a chance to explore the city and share some tutu-rific style inspiration with you.

If you haven't heard, Tutu Tuesday is a fun trend where people around the world rock their favourite tutus - and Elkford, a beautiful little town nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, embraced it wholeheartedly. There were tutus of every style imaginable, from classic romantic tulle to sassy, modern numbers that could definitely turn heads on a Saturday night. We had a few super cute kids strutting around in their mini-tutues, some fierce seniors rocking tutus over jeans and even a group of guys sporting playful tutu accessories, like sashes and mini tutus attached to their bags!

Elkford is known for its stunning scenery, so imagine this: the crystal-clear Kootenay River, a backdrop of majestic snow-capped mountains, and people in tutus, twirling around, snapping pictures, and enjoying the gorgeous weather! It was the perfect setting for a celebration of all things dance and fashion.

Speaking of dance, you may be wondering why Tutu Tuesday is a thing. Well, as someone who's been living and breathing ballet for over half my life, I can tell you that tutus hold a special place in every dancer's heart. They're more than just costumes - they're symbols of our dreams, our dedication, and our passion for the art of dance.

Of course, ballet is an important part of Canadian culture. There are incredible ballet schools and companies across the country, including some really amazing talent in the Rockies. Tutus in particular, remind us of the history and traditions of dance in Canada and how it has evolved into a captivating, innovative, and diverse art form that continues to captivate and inspire. So it makes sense that Tutu Tuesday would catch on here and all across the world. It’s a reminder that we can all tap into our inner child, embrace our creativity, and celebrate the joy of movement.

But Tutu Tuesday isn’t just about the dance – it’s about bringing the community together! I met so many interesting people at Elkford's celebration - folks with all kinds of stories to tell. One fellow I chatted with was a retired carpenter who was dressed head to toe in tutus - his own designs, no less. Turns out, he took up ballet as a hobby in his 70s! The best part about Tutu Tuesday was witnessing people of all ages, shapes, and sizes, come together to celebrate a love for dance and for the simple joy of dressing up. It really showcased the beauty of diversity in our community.

And the outfit I chose for the occasion? I opted for a beautiful hand-crafted blush-pink tulle tutu that twirled so beautifully, complete with a fitted black bodice and silver embellishments. It felt feminine, classy, and playful all at once - perfect for Tutu Tuesday and the picturesque Elkford setting! You know, those days where you’re just feeling inspired and beautiful? The blush-pink tutu gave me all the happy feelings and it just felt so right for this occasion!

Overall, Tutu Tuesday in Elkford, British Columbia, was a great experience. I even got some fabulous pictures – we even did a little photo shoot in front of the river! From the adorable little tutus to the colourful, vibrant creations worn by the more daring members of our community, Tutu Tuesday was a celebration of style, creativity, and, of course, the joy of dance!

Here are my favourite Tutu Tuesday highlights that you simply must see:

  • The little boy in a tutu that matched his mom's outfit – he twirled and posed like a true professional! I can tell he will be a rockstar dancer in the future.
  • The guy in a tuxedo who incorporated a bright purple tutu into his outfit – talk about making a statement!
  • The group of teenagers in tutu-themed shirts – their creativity was so cool! It reminded me of that one group in dance school who always took the fashion elements seriously.
  • That couple I saw walking hand-in-hand in matching tutus - they totally stole the show!
  • That vintage tutu I spotted at the Elkford Antique Shop - a piece of dance history.

I encourage you to join in on the fun – maybe it’ll become a monthly thing here in Elkford or maybe you’ll be inspired to have your own! I have a feeling the whole of British Columbia is about to fall in love with Tutu Tuesdays.
