Tutu Tuesday in Saint-Nazaire, Quebec: A Celebration of Ballet and Whimsy

It’s Tutu Tuesday in Saint-Nazaire, Quebec! The crisp autumn air nipped at my cheeks, but the excitement of a new Tutu Tuesday had me practically skipping down the street. For those not in the know, Tutu Tuesday is a monthly tradition for ballerinas and ballet enthusiasts around the world, where we wear our tutus with pride, flaunting our love for all things dance. This month's inspiration is definitely the Canadian prairies.

I was excited to check out the local shop downtown. Stepping through the door, I felt my eyes widen. The walls were lined with tutus of all shapes, sizes, and colours. I couldn't help but grin at the sheer volume of tulle – enough to create a cloud of softness and enchantment.

There were classic romantic tutus - full-bodied and floaty, and those romantic pointe shoes, with ribbons like perfect little bows. They evoked a vision of an elegant ballerina gracefully gliding across a stage, every movement radiating ethereal beauty. There was even a stunning crimson tutu - bold and captivating. It’s meant to be worn on stage under the stage lights.

And then, my eyes landed on a creation that simply stole my heart – a hand-sewn Tutu of all the beautiful colors found in the Canadian prairie. It’s amazing! I’d love to do my variation in that one and I’ll probably rock it on my next dance day, as long as it’s clean!

Let's talk trends for a minute. Some ballet-themed apparel has gotten a little wild in recent years, and I see so many different tutu variations. There are some fabulous shorter tutus that come down to the knee. And the Tutus-on-the-streets, (a fashionista must!), where fashion and function come together beautifully.

Tutu Tuesday is so much more than a fashion statement. It’s a celebration of a passion – a way of life! Ballet is my passion! As an aspiring ballerina, my life revolves around pirouettes, jetés, and leaps.

I’m constantly striving to improve my artistry and strength, every training session honing my abilities and increasing my stamina.

Ballet is my anchor and Tutu Tuesday is our little dance world to remind ourselves we are in this dance journey together, no matter what stage in the process.

And as my love affair with ballet deepens with every twirl and plie, the Tutu Tuesday tradition continues to blossom in Saint-Nazaire, Quebec and across Canada.

Today is an exciting day to celebrate! So I will definitely be wearing my Tutu, complete with my ballerina bun and perfect make-up.

Let’s go out and wear our Tutues! There’s nothing like putting on your dancing shoes and your Tutu and rocking a pose – It’s the perfect antidote to stress.

So grab your tutu, put on a smile, and twirl your way through the streets! After all, you don’t have to be a ballerina to celebrate this special day.
