Tutu Tuesday in Rama, Saskatchewan: A Celebration of Ballet and Canadian Style!
Hey everyone, it's your favourite ballerina and fashionista here! This week, we're going all out for #tututuesday, and you're invited!
It’s officially Tutu Tuesday, a celebration of the quintessential ballet garment – the tutu! From the classic romantic tutu, to the whimsical modern tutu, to the intricate and structured tutus that take a lifetime to craft, the tutu has been the emblem of ballet since its origins.
Today, however, we're not just talking about ballet. We’re focusing on #tututuesday in Rama, Saskatchewan, a town with a heart of gold, a love for art, and a deep appreciation for all things Canadian.
Why Rama, Saskatchewan?
Because it’s my hometown, and we’ve got a pretty vibrant and hidden ballet scene! From the Regina Ballet, to smaller studios like “Step and Leap”, Saskatchewan has a deep-rooted dance culture, full of talent and heart. The Rama ballet scene, though small, is deeply connected to the history of ballet in Canada. And the ballet studios here, even with the smallest budgets, churn out world-class talent – I know, because I was one of them!
Rama, Saskatchewan: A Fashionable Affair
And that's where fashion comes in! I know what you’re thinking - can the prairie chic really combine with tutus? The answer, of course, is a resounding yes.
Here's my plan for #tututuesday in Rama:
* From tutus to trendy streetwear - My outfit will be a classic Canadian look - a comfy but fashionable outfit with a modern and contemporary tutu twist. Think denim jackets and ripped jeans with a colourful, slightly distressed, romantic tutu thrown on top.
* Shop local! We've got a few great boutique shops in town. Think vintage clothing and up-cycled materials, all of which I’ll be trying to weave into my look. This will create a vintage yet contemporary spin on traditional tutu style - think classic tutu styles modernized with Canadian flavour and unique patterns.
* Supporting the local scene - I’m heading to a few local stores to pick up some cute ballet-inspired pieces for my tutu ensemble, like a pair of handmade earrings from "The Earthy Craft" or maybe a fun hat from the quirky little "Hat Heaven". The plan is to create an inspiring #tututuesday street style that everyone can connect with and celebrate.
* My own “Canadian tutu” creation - I’ve actually started crafting a unique tutu look out of a discarded old quilt with Canadian motifs and prairie landscape patterns - I found it at my grandmother's. It’s a bit of a mix-and-match look, incorporating traditional Canadian elements and modern styles -think prairie dresses with lace trims, a toque hat, or plaid shirts and Canadian wool. I want to show the world that Rama and Saskatchewan have a unique voice to share – that we’re stylish, artistic, and deeply passionate.
Making #tututuesday Magical
Of course, no #tututuesday is complete without a dance session. I'll be taking to the local park to show off my steps (maybe some choreography from a Canadian Ballet classic, who knows!). You guys can join me, and I’ll try to guide you through some moves too - think basic ballet steps that you can easily learn, while rocking your favourite tutu and keeping the vibe modern.
Spreading the Tutu Love
#tututuesday in Rama, Saskatchewan, is about showing the world the magic of dance. It’s about the beauty of expression and individuality, regardless of whether you're a ballerina, a fashion enthusiast, a small-town Canadian, or simply someone looking for a little inspiration. It’s a call for creativity, collaboration, and, of course, for rocking the ultimate ballet icon: the tutu.
