Tutu Tuesday in Souris-Glenwood, Manitoba: A Whirlwind of Tulle and Tradition #tututuesday Oh, Canada! It's a beautiful country filled with beautiful people and a thriving arts scene – especially in the world of dance. As a dancer, it warms my heart to see so much talent and passion blooming across our vast landscapes. And it’s particularly exciting to see tutu culture taking root right here in Manitoba. And I’m not talking about just the ballet stage anymore! Tutu Tuesday is sweeping the province! Last week, I had the chance to check out the Tutu Tuesday festivities in Souris-Glenwood, Manitoba, and it was an absolute dream! The energy was buzzing as the town's residents donned their tutus – all different styles – and embraced the whimsical fun. You know, I've always been a huge fan of the traditional, romantic ballet tutu. They're like little clouds of tulle that make you feel like you're floating on air. I mean, who can resist that quintessential fairytale feeling of a long, graceful skirt swirling around your ankles as you twirl? But then again, who’s to say a tutu can't be edgy too? I saw everything from the classic layered Romantic tutu – often featured in "Giselle," a beloved ballet in Canada – to fiercely chic modern ones with sharp, asymmetrical lines that had people strutting around like they owned the streets. Here’s what I saw on my day at Tutu Tuesday in Souris-Glenwood: * **The "Sweethearts of Tutu Tuesday" competition:** Imagine the cutest little dancers in the province (that’s what Manitoba's known for – adorable, down-to-earth kids), all dressed in their tiny tutus, performing heart-melting routines on the town square. My heart nearly melted. * **The Tutu-inspired street food stall:** You’re not a foodie until you’ve tried “tutu-tastic” fried dough. I mean, if I didn't have to look fabulous in my own tutu for the Tutu Tuesday fashion show, I’d have indulged! * **The Tutu-themed market:** All those crafty artisans showing off their handcrafted Tutu accessories – seriously – even their earrings were inspired by tutus! And not just that. There were everything from beaded tutu-themed necklaces, handcrafted bracelets with delicate tutu motifs to tote bags designed to perfectly fit your favorite tutu. It was a must-have for all you fellow dancers (and all the proud dance moms, too!) You could even grab your favorite tutu fabric to make your own Tutu Tuesday creations. You can never have enough tutus, in my opinion. * **The Tutu-fashion show:** This was an epic event! From the teen dance group who did a powerful rendition of “Swan Lake” (another ballet that holds a special place in the Canadian hearts!) to the stylish mums and even the dads, strutting their stuff in their own, quirky interpretations of “tutu couture,” this fashion show made a true fashion statement – there were so many creative designs in the audience too. My favorite part of the show had to be the amazing Grand Finale, where all the Tutu Tuesday participants danced in the square to some classic pop tunes! * **The Tutu-inspired photography corner:** Now, this one is perfect for everyone, especially with #tututuesday trend hitting new heights! What better way to showcase your tutu-fabulous style than to get your picture taken by a professional photographer against a custom-built Tutu backdrop! People took a turn posing for “Tutu Tuesdays” on this photo opportunity of a lifetime! You see, Tutu Tuesday is not just a fun day, it's a movement. It's a way for people to express themselves and have a blast. It’s also a way to create a sense of community and spread joy, while inspiring a passion for dance – all this while looking darn good, of course. And all of that is what makes it so special. If you're in Manitoba or a surrounding province, and if you’re all about spreading a message of positive vibes, I strongly suggest heading down to Souris-Glenwood next year. I am convinced it is the best place to take a Tutu selfie – all those twirls and jumps will make for a memorable moment to #tututuesday! So put on your tutu, unleash your inner dance queen, and come have some fun! The stage, or more like, the town square is your oyster! You never know who you’re gonna meet!
