Tutu Tuesday in Lumby, British Columbia: A Celebration of Dance and Fashion
Hey everyone! It's your girl, Lily, back with another blog post all about my favourite day of the week - Tutu Tuesday! If you haven't heard of it yet, Tutu Tuesday is a celebration of all things dance-related, with a special emphasis on tutus, those iconic pieces of ballet attire. So, naturally, when I heard about the launch of "Tutu Tuesday" I knew I had to hop on board. I mean, how can you resist a day dedicated to these magnificent frothy creations? We Canadians love a good excuse to celebrate - eh?
For me, the Tutu is more than just a costume, it's a symbol of the beautiful world of ballet. Every tutu tells a story, reflecting the era it comes from and the character it's portraying. You've got your traditional Romantic tutu, all delicate and flowing with multiple layers of tulle. Then there's the "petit" version, slightly shorter, and super flattering! Of course, let's not forget about the dramatic "grand" tutus, often used for dramatic productions. Then there are tutus inspired by a specific time period, for example, the tutus of the Renaissance or even Medieval periods - think bold colours and more extravagant ornamentation! And speaking of embellishments - we can't forget about the exquisite embellishments that add the ultimate touch of glamour to these iconic costumes!
It was such a great feeling to don my very own tutus last week, I wore the sparkly one! So for all of you in Lumby, you're in for a treat because we're doing something special to kick things off! Come join the fun! Hereās the plan: We're planning to put on a little Tutu fashion show in the local park. Everyone is invited to come dressed up in their own favourite tutus, from those classic romantic-style tutus to super sparkly DIY ones! Weāll be dancing, sharing ballet stories and snapping photos for Instagram! Don't forget to use the hashtag #tututuesday when you share those dance-tastic moments, alright?
Oh, and don't be afraid to show off your tutu creativity! Think of interesting twists on the traditional designs. Maybe experiment with different textures, fabrics, colours! Just remember: the only rule for Tutu Tuesday is to have fun! You want to be bold, confident, and let that inner ballerina shine!
And just in case you're wondering about how to find your perfect tutu (a common question!), Lumby has got your back, because we are in such a fortunate location - a little bit out of Vancouver where you find some truly amazing shops. A favourite of mine? āTutu de Coutureā! They have the cutest collection of tutus - for beginners and pros! I swear their inventory looks like it's straight out of a fairy tale. I always pick up a new accessory in their shop!
We'll be starting our Tutu Tuesday celebration right outside Lumby Community Centre in downtown Lumby - be sure to arrive early because it's sure to be a huge crowd! We're expecting families, dance teachers, seasoned dancers, and even beginners - you know, all of you aspiring prima ballerinas out there - just waiting to have their tutu moment! You're not only welcome, but encouraged to come dressed up to the nines. After all, what is a Tutu Tuesday without showstopping tutus! We'll also be giving out little dance kits for those of you who didnāt manage to grab one of their own! Just imagine a little package of dance essentials like mini barrettes and hair spray, or those super-cool glitter-tutu stickers that are always in style, perfect to stick on your tutu or just wear for a sparkly night! Just saying... #tutuessentials!
