Tutu Tuesday in Price, Quebec: A Whirlwind of Tulle and Tradition
Hey fellow dance lovers! Itâs your girl, Isabelle, back with another installment of #TutuTuesday, and today weâre taking it to the streets of Price, Quebec! Now, Price might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think âballet,â but let me tell you, the dance scene here is bursting with talent, passion, and a whole lot of tutu-licious fashion.
This little town nestled in the heart of the GaspĂŠsie region boasts a vibrant ballet community thatâs deeply rooted in tradition. Theyâve got classic schools teaching the old-school moves, as well as contemporary companies pushing the boundaries of modern dance. It's the perfect mix of classic and contemporary, kind of like my favourite tutuâa romantic, flowing Romantic tutu paired with a sharp, geometric contemporary bodice.
I was lucky enough to drop in on a few rehearsals at the Centre dâarts de la scène de Price. Talk about an experience! From the graceful leaps of the young ballerinas to the heart-pumping choreography of the contemporary troupe, it was a visual feast. One thing that really caught my eye was the stunning array of tutusâweâre talking classics, like the fluffy Romantic tutus with their tiers of soft tulle, and bold modern pieces, including a breathtaking number featuring geometric shapes and bold coloursâa far cry from the traditional, elegant tutu!
But beyond the elegance and the art, the beauty of Price's dance scene lies in the heart. The community comes together to support local dancers and share their passion for ballet, regardless of the style they dance.
