Tutu Tuesday in Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu, Quebec: A Dance With Fashion and Fun! #tututuesday

Hey everyone! It's your girl, Anya, back with another #tututuesday post, and this time, we're taking things to Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu, Quebec! If you've been following my blog, you know I love exploring different aspects of the ballet world, from technique to costumes, and this little town holds a special place in my heart for its historical connection to the dance.

Now, I know what you're thinking: Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu, really? It's a small town with a population under 2,000. You'd be surprised how much hidden gems you can find in the smallest of places. Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu, despite its modest size, boasts a unique and beautiful history interwoven with dance. The town played host to the “Grand Théâtre Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu” (it's no longer there), built in 1901 by the first citizens who were pioneers in Canada and artists! Can you imagine what those ballerinas would have worn in that era? I can practically envision the flowing, soft tulle tutus with intricate patterns of ribbons and pearls. Imagine them stepping onto that stage under the gaslights! They weren't the big poufy tutus you see in modern ballet, they were more like delicate works of art.

It’s not just the historical aspect of this little town that makes it unique, it’s also its beauty. Every time I walk the streets, I see the beautiful buildings, and I am instantly inspired! It’s not all about the tutu (though I love a good tutu!), it's about expressing myself and connecting to my inner ballerina. That’s why I encourage all my fellow dance lovers to join the movement: embrace your inner ballerinas and try out Tutu Tuesday in your own communities, regardless of their size!

Here are some things I love about Tutu Tuesday:

  • **The freedom of expression:** When I’m rocking a tutu, it's like stepping onto a stage every single day, ready to show the world who I am. A tutu empowers me. I can channel the elegance and grace of a classical ballerina one day and experiment with bold colors and a punk rock vibe the next. That's what Tutu Tuesday is all about: expressing yourself creatively!
  • **The sense of community:** It's truly incredible how a simple accessory like a tutu can bring people together. Every Tuesday, I see fellow ballerinas across Canada embracing the #tututuesday hashtag and sharing their style, stories, and love for dance!
  • **It's fun!** Seriously, who doesn’t love wearing a tutu?! There’s no reason why we should limit these whimsical outfits just to the ballet studio. I've even seen people rock their tutus while grocery shopping, having coffee dates, and even attending professional networking events. Let's break free from those outdated notions of what a tutu represents and show the world the playful side of ballet.

I'm excited to share this week’s #tututuesday outfit inspiration with you all! I recently bought a beautiful pale pink tulle tutu. It's simple and classic but it evokes that airy and dreamy feeling you get in the middle of a performance. My choice of attire today reflects Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu: a mix of tradition and new energy. For the town's "Grand Théâtre," I paired my tulle tutu with a white ballet camisole. This is a modern spin on the classic ballerina style – I like the fact that the tutu is the focal point. Of course, I completed the look with some chic ballerina shoes, my signature accessory, and added a statement silver necklace to elevate it to the next level.

What I love about tutu styles is that they have come a long way since the days of the romantic era. We are no longer restricted to the tight, short, full-skirted tutus worn in traditional ballets like Swan Lake and La Bayadère! Today, you can find different types of tutus for various purposes! If you are going for a classic and traditional look, choose a full-skirted tutu with many layers. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a more modern look, I recommend trying out the tutus that have less layers but a longer skirt and lots of different materials – think tulle, chiffon, satin and other beautiful, flowy fabrics. Some styles are also asymmetrical – they can have a single layer that drops from the hip to one side, like in some contemporary choreographies. Whatever your style is, there’s a tutu out there waiting for you!
