Tutu Tuesday in Stockport: A Whirlwind of Fabric and Fun

Itā€™s officially Tutu Tuesday in Stockport, and you know what that means? Itā€™s time to embrace our inner ballerinas and twirl into the week with a touch of tulle! For those of you unfamiliar with this joyous celebration (where have you been?!), #Tututuesday is a day dedicated to wearing tutus, celebrating dance, and simply embracing the whimsy that a twirling, swirling tutu brings. And trust me, Stockport has not disappointed!

I woke up this morning with a twirl in my step and a twinkle in my eye, knowing it was going to be a magical day. After all, how could it not be when I'd planned my tutu-tastic outfit meticulously? My choice: a classic white tutu, simple and elegant, reminiscent of the traditional tutu worn by the legendary ballerinas of old. Itā€™s a timeless silhouette that never fails to make me feel like a graceful swan.

And wouldnā€™t you know it, I was not alone in my tutu-mania! The streets of Stockport were positively abuzz with twirling and swirling ā€“ tutus in all shapes, sizes, and colours! There was the majestic **Romantic tutu**, billowing with layers of tulle, perfect for those with a flair for the dramatic. The **Romantic tutu** makes a statement; think La Sylphide and **Giselle** for inspiration. Youā€™ll often find this in ballet classes because itā€™s flattering for the body and enables large leaps and elegant extensions, however for a #tututuesday occasion it can also be paired with simple attire for a street look thatā€™s just as sophisticated. There was the sassy **Powderpuff tutu**, which had just enough tulle to add a touch of drama, but without being too overwhelming for everyday wear. A perfect option for the modern dancer who wants to add a touch of whimsical femininity without sacrificing comfort or practicality. Then, there was the oh-so-fun, **Short Tutu**; think **Coppelia** meets fashionista! The ultimate #tututuesday accessory ā€“ perfect for injecting a bit of sparkle into any look! Think leggings, a loose top or a chic frock with an injection of colour! Of course, we canā€™t forget the classic **Pancake tutu**ā€“ also referred to as a **Platter tutu** - which brings back a nostalgia to childhood ā€“ think Swan Lake with the grace of a White Swan. This traditional, flat silhouette is designed to enable a dancer's long leaps and turns. Its often worn with an expressive ballet top or leotard, but today, we spotted a few Pancake tutu's worn as part of everyday dress, which looked fantastic!

One of the highlights of my #Tututuesday adventure was definitely the #tututuesday Stockport dance workshop. Held in the beautiful Victorian building, Stockport Plaza, we spent the morning learning some ballet basics and a touch of modern dance (the fun kinda stuff) with a super talented choreographer. It was such a brilliant chance to learn new moves and to see a whole range of ages having a blast with #tututuesday.

After the workshop, I joined the local tutu contingent, headed for Stockportā€™s famed Market Place ā€“ it was a spectacle. Picture this: rows of colourful stalls adorned with everything from vintage fashion to locally-made crafts. And among the crowds, a flurry of tutus swirling like a ballet in the making! It felt like the entire town was taking part. Local artisan, Millie, shared with me how she was inspired by #tututuesday and how her unique range of hand-stitched tutus has taken off with #tututuesday following.

This led me to Stockportā€™s finest cafĆ©, The Stockport Exchange, which has become a favorite haven for #tututuesday-lovers. They had a ā€œTutu Tuesdayā€ special: tea and cake, but with a sprinkle of pink and white sprinkles. Delicious! The perfect way to fuel up for an afternoon of tutus, laughter, and fun! Itā€™s a place where you can relax with friends, indulge in some cake and admire the beautiful #tututuesday fashions, all the while getting lost in conversations that spark creativity. And the ambiance? Pure magic!.

By late afternoon, my tutu-tastic journey came to an end. However, the feeling of pure joy and empowerment remained. And why not? After all, tutu-wearing is more than just fashion. It's a statement of freedom, self-expression, and joy. It reminds us to twirl, to laugh, and to embrace the joy of simple things.

I leave you with a gentle nudge to grab your tutu and take part in this amazing celebration! Tutu Tuesday isnā€™t about perfect technique, fancy footwork or being a professional ballet dancer - it's about a joyful embrace of lifeā€™s simplest pleasures - and thereā€™s no better place than Stockport to embrace it. So go on, grab your most whimsical tutu, twirl, laugh and spread the love ā€“ because lifeā€™s too short not to have a little fun with #tututuesday!
