Tutu Tuesday in Frenchman Butte, Saskatchewan #tututuesday

Hey everyone, it's your girl, Clara, back with another Tutu Tuesday post! This week I'm bringing you a little taste of the prairies and a lot of twirling joy from the heart of Saskatchewan. You wouldn't think a place like Frenchman Butte would be a hub for dance fashion, but trust me, this little town is full of surprises.

As I'm sure you already know, I'm a Canadian girl through and through, and there's something truly special about dance culture in Canada. From the bustling ballet scene in Toronto to the grassroots community studios across the country, Canadians have a real passion for the art of dance, and it's an honour to be part of this amazing scene.

But today, I'm leaving the big city behind and heading to a place with wide-open skies, endless fields, and a whole lot of charm โ€“ Frenchman Butte, Saskatchewan. It's a bit of a departure from the typical Tutu Tuesday, but trust me, you'll love it.

Here's the lowdown on my adventures in Frenchman Butte.

  • Small-town charm, big-town style. When I first arrived in Frenchman Butte, I was expecting something a little... more rustic. Don't get me wrong, the prairie charm is real, but the folks here have a definite eye for fashion. While it may be a long drive to the nearest ballet supply store, there's definitely no lack of style. Even the smallest towns have their own way of showcasing fashion flair.
  • Twirling through the fields. There's nothing quite like twirling in a flowing tutu under a vast sky, especially when that sky is Saskatchewan's iconic prairie blue. The breeze carried through the long grass, the gentle sun warming my skin - it was pure ballet bliss. I may have drawn a few curious looks from local farmers (probably wondering why this city girl was twirling around like she was auditioning for a barn-dance performance!), but the joy I felt was worth every odd glance.
  • A classic tutu update: I went with a timeless white tulle tutu this time, but to add a touch of Frenchman Butte flair, I used some fabric scraps from a local artisan's shop and stitched on a small, handmade prairie flower. It's the little touches that make all the difference, right?
  • Saskatchewan's Unexpected Dance Scene: While I was there, I met up with the most incredible group of local dance instructors. They had a hidden little studio in the heart of Frenchman Butte, tucked away above the local grocery store. Turns out they had a thriving dance community โ€“ even in such a small town! These dedicated teachers offered classes from ballet to hip hop and everything in between. It was inspiring to see their dedication to nurturing dance in such an unexpected setting.
  • Dance Fashion in a Whole New Light: One of the highlights of my trip was meeting a local milliner who makes amazing, one-of-a-kind hats. I convinced her to create something special for Tutu Tuesday - a breathtaking wide-brimmed hat with an ethereal feel made from the finest locally-sourced materials. Let's just say, it looked like something straight out of a fairytale!

My Tutu Tuesday journey in Frenchman Butte was a true reminder that fashion and dance transcend location. Whether it's a grand ballet performance or a spontaneous twirl under a vast sky, the spirit of dance is universal. I can't wait to see where Tutu Tuesday takes me next!

Keep dancing and keep following my blog for more adventures!

Yours in twirls,

Clara
