Tutu Tuesday in Saint-Ubalde, Quebec: A Tutu-licious Celebration of Ballet in Canada

Hey dance lovers, it’s your girl, Chloé, here, and it’s time to get our tutus on! As a ballet dancer in this beautiful country, I’m always thrilled to share my passion for the art form, and this week’s #tututuesday post is dedicated to celebrating all things tutu in my hometown of Saint-Ubalde, Quebec.

Saint-Ubalde, known for its picturesque landscape and cozy community spirit, is also surprisingly becoming a hub for ballet. You wouldn’t think it, but a small-town feel doesn’t stop us from strutting our stuff! We've got a burgeoning ballet scene with passionate young dancers and dedicated instructors.

Now, let's talk tutus! As a ballet dancer, a tutu is not just an outfit; it's an expression, a statement, and a connection to history and heritage. For this week's #tututuesday, I thought it would be fun to explore different tutu styles and why each holds a special place in our ballet hearts:

  • Romantic Tutu: A must-have for any ballet enthusiast. Imagine a fluffy, ethereal, and dream-like creation, and that's a Romantic tutu. It’s lightweight, whimsical, and designed to move beautifully with every pirouette and jeté. Think a swirling, soft tulle, usually shorter than the classic tutus. The romantic tutu exudes a feminine and airy feeling and really makes a statement!
  • Classical Tutu: A timeless beauty that takes inspiration from the golden era of ballet, featuring several layers of tulle arranged in a bell shape to form a voluminous skirt. These beauties usually have a slightly shorter bodice with a dramatic bustle at the back. This tutu evokes elegance and sophistication and can be used for various pieces in the classical ballet repertoire.
  • Modern Tutu: Not confined by traditional structures, a modern tutu can vary wildly. Sometimes you'll find short skirts with sleek, minimal lines, and at other times, layers of mesh or even feathers are employed. These tutus emphasize dynamism, experimentation, and fluidity, highlighting modern ballet's commitment to breaking the boundaries. Modern tutus, to me, feel incredibly artistic - pushing boundaries and highlighting bold individuality.

Our community in Saint-Ubalde is bursting with talent, and seeing them embrace the tutu adds a certain je ne sais quoi. What better way to represent your love of ballet and your connection to this vibrant community? We even held a fun photo shoot with the young ballet dancers in our town, each wearing their unique and special tutus! Check out the photos - a beautiful collection of graceful and confident young ballerinas and ballet boys!

I encourage all you aspiring dancers out there - from Saint-Ubalde and across Canada - to rock your tutus with pride! #tututuesday is a great way to showcase our shared love for ballet.
