Tutu Tuesday in Osler, Saskatchewan: A Celebration of Twirls and #tututuesday

Hey everyone! It's your girl, Sarah, back with another blog post about all things ballet and, of course, the glorious celebration of tulle known as Tutu Tuesday. This week, I'm taking you to Osler, Saskatchewan, a charming town with a surprising ballet scene and a whole lot of #tututuesday love.

As a ballet dancer myself, there's something incredibly special about seeing how this art form thrives in even the most unexpected places. Osler might be a small town, but the passion for dance runs deep. Just last week, I was lucky enough to visit the local dance studio, Osler Dance Academy, and let me tell you, these young dancers were something else!

Imagine: the air filled with the sounds of classical music, the sunshine streaming through the studio windows, and a room bursting with the energy of pint-sized ballerinas twirling in all their glory. I'm talking about a rainbow of colours - from classic pink and ivory to bright yellows and playful purples - with tutus in all their styles. The graceful, airy wispy tulle of a Romantic tutu paired with the classic romantic pink. Some dancers favoured the structured, layered tiers of the "Classical" tutu, while others went all out with the dramatic "Neoclassical" tutu, each style adding its own unique flavour to the beautiful choreography.

It was absolutely heartwarming to see how much these kids loved their art form. They were full of enthusiasm and energy, their eyes sparkling with joy as they moved through their routines. Each #tututuesday was a special celebration at Osler Dance Academy - a day to unleash their inner ballerina, and I felt inspired by their passion.

Here are a few highlights from my #tututuesday adventure in Osler:

  • The Tutu Exchange: The dancers at Osler Dance Academy have a wonderful tradition - the Tutu Exchange. They gather their favourite tutus to swap, sell, or donate to support their dance program. It was a fantastic way to share their love of dance and find new additions to their costume collection.
  • Tutu Crafting Workshop: The #tututuesday celebrations extended to a special Tutu Crafting Workshop. Kids of all ages gathered to learn the art of creating their own tutus! From the youngest aspiring ballerina to even grandmothers, the craft tables buzzed with creativity as everyone experimented with feathers, tulle, sequins, and ribbons to fashion a true #tututuesday masterpiece.
  • Tutu Showcase: As a final act for #tututuesday, there was a fantastic tutu showcase. Dancers from the Osler Dance Academy showed off their skills, twirling, leaping, and expressing themselves in graceful ballets and contemporary dances. It was truly a mesmerizing performance! The #tututuesday Tutu Showcase was an inspiration and showcased the incredible talent coming up through the Osler dance scene.

While the main focus of #tututuesday in Osler was about the fun and festivities of dance and fashion, it was also about something deeper. It was a way for the community to connect and build strong bonds through their shared love for dance.

So, there you have it. My #tututuesday experience in Osler, Saskatchewan. If you're looking for a heartwarming reminder of why we love ballet and all things tutus, you should definitely check out what's happening in this small town. You'll be blown away by the talent and passion, and perhaps you'll even discover your inner ballerina!

I know it can be easy to get caught up in the rush of city life, but I encourage you to embrace the joy of dancing, #tututuesday, and small-town life whenever you get the chance. I promise, you won't regret it!
