Tutu Tuesday in Saint Martins, New Brunswick: A Celebration of Whimsy and Dance

It's Tuesday, and you know what that means? Tutu Tuesday, of course! I'm so excited to share my love of dance and tutus with you all. I live for the simple joy of a twirl, and the confidence a tutu can bring is unbeatable.

For the uninitiated, Tutu Tuesday is a social media celebration where we all post pics of ourselves rocking tutus in the most whimsical ways. Whether it’s a full-blown classical ballet tutu with its layers of tulle, or a simple, sassy tutu that makes you feel like you’re ready for the dance floor, it’s a chance to show your inner ballerina (or ballerino!) and share your love of dance.

As a dancer and a Canadian, I’m always fascinated by the history of ballet in Canada. We have such a rich heritage. From the iconic National Ballet of Canada to the up-and-coming ballet schools across the country, the art of dance is thriving here.

So, to honour Tutu Tuesday and celebrate my roots in New Brunswick, I’m taking you on a tour of the cutest little coastal town of Saint Martins, where a touch of Tutu Tuesday magic can be found in the most unexpected places. It’s a perfect place to unwind and enjoy a day in nature with some light and airy ballet moves.

First stop – the iconic Saint Martins Wharf. This historic structure offers a breathtaking vista over the Bay of Fundy, and I had to have a twirl at the end of the wharf with the salty sea air blowing through my tulle. It felt magical. My choice of tutu for this spot was a beautiful soft pink one with delicate details on the bodice. It was breezy and whimsical, and the perfect complement to the coastal charm of Saint Martins.

Then it was off to the scenic Saint Martins River Walk, which follows a quiet little river leading to a hidden little cove where the ocean water dances back and forth. The peaceful rhythm of the tide seemed to inspire some effortless pirouettes and graceful pliés. I was wearing a flowing pale blue tutu for this portion, and its colour reflected the azure hues of the river perfectly.

As the day unfolded, we took a quick walk around the picturesque Saint Martins Harbour, soaking in the vibrant energy of the fishing boats bobbing in the water, a touch of nautical magic on this coastal tour. And who could resist a classic white tutu? The bright white contrasted wonderfully against the colourful seaside scenes of Saint Martins. There were some impromptu leaps in the harbour’s heart - who says you can't combine Tutu Tuesday fun with your favourite seaside hangout?

From our scenic explorations, we ended our Tutu Tuesday adventure at the whimsical Saint Martins Lighthouse. It’s the perfect place to watch the sun set over the Bay of Fundy and indulge in a touch of poetic ballet. It seemed fitting that a sparkly midnight-blue tutu brought our adventure to a close – perfect for an evening of dancing stars and ocean magic.

Tutu Tuesday is all about embracing that inner ballerina and celebrating our shared love for dance, whether you’re a seasoned pro, a novice in pointe shoes, or someone who loves the whimsical allure of a well-placed tutu. It’s a reminder to twirl through life with joy, creativity, and a whole lot of flair.
