Tutu Tuesday in Lajord, Saskatchewan: A Ballet Blogger’s Journey

It’s Tutu Tuesday, and the air in Lajord, Saskatchewan is crisp and clean. The sun is just beginning to peek over the horizon, casting long shadows across the prairie. It's a beautiful morning for a ballet class, and I’m feeling extra motivated. Why? Because it's Tutu Tuesday!

Now, I know what you’re thinking. “Tutu Tuesday? What’s that? Isn’t it just another Tuesday?” Well, let me tell you, for a ballerina, Tutu Tuesday is much more than just a regular day of the week. It’s a celebration of all things tutus, from the classic romantic tutus that evoke visions of graceful ballerinas to the contemporary tutus, a whirlwind of playful and daring fabrics.

As a Canadian ballet dancer and blogger, I find immense pride in representing the talent and artistry that exists in Canadian ballet. And let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a good tutu?! Today, I'm rocking a **layered tulle tutu**, which is definitely my go-to for this specific Tuesday. It's so light and airy, making it perfect for gliding through my plies and tendus in my class at the Saskatchewan Dance Academy.

My dance journey started here in Lajord. This little prairie town is full of big dreams. I remember being just a little girl, mesmerized by the graceful movements of the ballerinas on stage. Back then, it felt like the stage was just out of reach, a magical world waiting to be explored. Every year, I would participate in the Lajord town fair talent show, daring to dream big by dancing in my DIY-tutu fashioned out of bed sheets.

Looking back, it’s amazing how far I’ve come since then. Ballet has been my passion since I could walk (literally! My first steps were accompanied by my mum’s soft humming of “Swan Lake” ). And that journey, my friends, led me to Toronto, where I enrolled in a prestigious ballet school, immersing myself in the Canadian ballet scene. But regardless of my journey, I never forget where I come from. Lajord is a place of immense inspiration. It is the birthplace of my dance passion.

Now, back to our Tutu Tuesday celebration! As I warm up my body, I can’t help but marvel at the transformative power of a tutu. A good tutu doesn’t just look stunning – it can empower you and transport you to a world of imagination.

I remember one memorable experience – a ballet competition in Montreal. It was a tense moment. As I stood backstage, I felt a little nervous. That was the moment when I looked at the elegant layers of my tutu and, as if by magic, all that worry vanished. Suddenly, I felt ready. And let me tell you, that moment was my magic “Tutu Tuesday”!

That brings me to a very important point: Not all tutus are created equal! They’re a spectrum of styles. Just like how people’s personalities are unique, each tutu reflects that uniqueness! We’ve got our classics - the **romantic tutu** with multiple layers, perfect for those elegant moves, or the **bodice tutu** for a bolder, contemporary feel, or the **pagoda tutu**, which, by the way, is perfect for demonstrating those breathtaking grand jete’s!

So, what makes this #tututuesday special for me? Well, it’s the joy of spreading this contagious ballet love and inspiration with other aspiring dancers in my hometown. I will be leading a masterclass this afternoon for all ages. It’s not about perfection but about sharing that magic we call “ballet”. And what’s more inspiring than a tutu for an aspiring young ballerina?! That spark, those smiles – that’s what truly makes Tutu Tuesday so much fun!

So, embrace your inner ballerina, find your own unique tutu – whether it’s a classic or a contemporary piece – and dance your heart out. This Tuesday, it’s not just any Tuesday, it’s Tutu Tuesday.

I will be sharing more stories about ballet and tutu styles in the coming weeks, so be sure to follow me! #tututuesday #lajord #saskatchewan #canadianballet #dancelife
