Tutu Tuesday in Grand View, Manitoba: A Whirlwind of Tulle and Twirls #tututuesday

Hey everyone! It's your girl, Claire, back with another post about my favourite day of the week – Tutu Tuesday! I know, I know, some of you might think I'm crazy, but hear me out. There's something undeniably magical about slipping on a tutu and feeling like a ballerina, even if I'm just heading to the grocery store. And trust me, you can totally pull off a tutu even if you're not a professional dancer (wink, wink).

This week, I decided to celebrate Tutu Tuesday in the charming little town of Grand View, Manitoba. Now, Grand View might not be the first place you think of when you picture a ballet scene, but that's what I love about it – it's full of hidden gems and unexpected delights. Just imagine the surprised faces I got when I strolled into the local bakery, all twirling in my classic Romantic tutu. The cashier even offered to buy me a cookie (you're a true gem, lady!).

I'm a huge fan of classic Romantic tutus, those with layers and layers of tulle that make you feel like you're floating on a cloud. It's such a classic look, and it never fails to turn heads (especially in the grocery store!). But I'm also loving the rise of modern tutus, those that have more angular silhouettes and a more edgy vibe. For a Tutu Tuesday outfit that's truly *shocking*, consider trying a ballet-inspired crop top and high-waisted skirt combination with a dramatic Tutu-esque gathered fabric skirt, paired with boots. Think: the '80s meets ballet.

One thing I love about Tutu Tuesdays in Canada is that it’s so much fun to incorporate it into your wardrobe in so many creative ways! For example, think about all the fabulous options out there with the super-trendy tulle-embellished jackets and shirts, you can go a step further with the Tutu-esque skirt paired with your favourite high-tops for a cool, street-smart look. It’s fun, it’s different, and it just goes to show you that ballet style is more versatile than you might think! It's also such a great opportunity to show your support for the Canadian ballet scene. We have some incredible dancers and companies in this country, and they deserve all the love and appreciation they can get. It’s important for our dance scene, to continue supporting this unique aspect of Canadian culture, both nationally and in smaller cities across the country. The more we all spread the ballet love (even in our grocery store outings!), the more awareness we’ll generate!

If you're looking for some more tutu inspiration, check out these fabulous Canadian ballet companies:

  • The National Ballet of Canada
  • The Royal Winnipeg Ballet
  • Les Grands Ballets Canadiens
  • The Alberta Ballet
  • Ballet BC
  • The Canadian Ballet Theatre

And if you're on the hunt for some great tutu finds, here are some online stores that you should definitely check out:

  • Dancers Closet (They have amazing pre-owned tutus! If you’re a serious dancer, they have great finds, but it’s also a great spot for finding affordable tutus in all styles.)
  • Costume SuperCenter (They have such a variety, and they’re usually always running sales! I can't tell you how many fantastic pieces I've picked up from them.)
  • Amazon (You’d be surprised how many fun, high-quality tutu options you’ll find here. There’s some fantastic tulle fabric and many adorable mini-skirts!)
  • Etsy (This is your place if you want one-of-a-kind, bespoke designs. Many artisans here craft stunning and creative ballet-inspired clothing.)

So go on, grab your tutu and join the Tutu Tuesday movement! It's a day to embrace your inner ballerina and show off your unique style. No matter where you are in Canada (or the world, for that matter), you can be a part of it! Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to do a pirouette at the mailbox while waiting for the postman!

Happy Tutu Tuesday!

Keep twirling,
Claire
