Tutu Tuesday in Burnaby, British Columbia: A Celebration of Dance and Fashion #tututuesday

Hey, fellow dance lovers! It's your girl, Anya, here, back with another edition of Tutu Tuesday. I know you're all dying to hear about my adventures in the world of ballet and fashion, so let's dive right in!

Today, I'm taking you on a tour of the vibrant ballet scene in Burnaby, British Columbia. Yes, you read that right! This charming city has a heart that beats to the rhythm of classical dance. Whether you're a seasoned ballerinas or a newbie dipping your toes into the world of pirouettes, Burnaby offers something for everyone.

My day began at the Burnaby Arts Centre. As soon as I walked in, I was mesmerized by the beautiful architecture. This venue is home to some of the most incredible ballet performances I've seen. It's a space where the magic of dance really comes alive.

Now, let's talk about tutus! Oh, the tutus! They are the crown jewels of the ballet world. And let me tell you, Burnaby is where the real tutu royalty lives.

First, we have the **Romantic Tutu.** Imagine a wispy, ethereal creation made of soft, delicate tulle. Think graceful lines, airy layers, and a lightness that makes you feel like you could float on a cloud. It's a timeless classic that never goes out of style.

Then we have the **Classical Tutu**, a bit more structured than its romantic counterpart. Think crisp, perfectly formed layers of tulle that flow effortlessly when you move. It's a show-stopper that exudes power and precision. Just picture a grand ballerina soaring through the air, her classical tutu trailing behind her. Pure magic!

But don't think Burnaby is all about traditional tutus. This city embraces creativity, so expect to see some avant-garde styles as well.

There's the **Modern Tutu** – a departure from tradition. We're talking asymmetry, abstract shapes, and unexpected colours. This tutu pushes the boundaries of dance wear and is a visual feast for the eyes.

And don't forget the **Contemporary Tutu**. This is the embodiment of flexibility and versatility. Think flowing lines, layers of soft fabric, and designs that seamlessly blend with the movements of the dancers. It's all about freedom of expression and the exploration of new aesthetics.

After soaking up the energy of the Burnaby Arts Centre, I headed to one of my favourite places in the city - the Burnaby Village Museum. This living history museum is like stepping back in time. It's an amazing space for learning about the city's past and the history of dance in Canada. They actually have an old dance studio and have restored period costumes - including several stunning tutus!

You might be thinking, "Anya, that sounds amazing, but where can I get my hands on one of these stunning tutus?" Fear not, dear readers, because I have just the place. One of the absolute must-visit spots for any ballerina in Burnaby is the fabulous Dance World, a haven for all things dance-related, including a magnificent selection of tutus from beginner to professional levels! This store is a paradise for all things dance-related.

From the traditional to the avant-garde, they've got tutus for every dancer. Plus, the staff is amazing - friendly, knowledgeable, and truly passionate about dance.

This week I’m getting back to the basics of ballet! After a recent knee injury, I'm getting my barre technique back on point so I can tackle those more complex choreography I’m aiming to nail later this month! We all know barre is a vital part of being a ballerina.

It's been a whirlwind of dance and fashion in Burnaby today, and I'm already counting down the days until my next visit. There’s nothing quite like a Tutu Tuesday to fuel my love of ballet.

Speaking of fuel, I'm off to grab a poutine at one of my favourite local haunts, because let's be honest, every Canadian needs a dose of cheesy goodness. Catch you on the next Tutu Tuesday!
