Tutu Tuesday in St. Thomas, Ontario: A Celebration of Whirl and Twirl #tututuesday

It’s Tuesday, which means it’s time for a little #tututuesday love! You know I can’t let a week go by without sharing some tutu inspiration, and what better way to do that than to celebrate this fabulously fun fashion statement right here in my hometown, St. Thomas, Ontario!

For all you newbies out there, tutu Tuesday is a fun hashtag that celebrates all things tutu – whether it’s the classic, billowing, romantic tulle skirts of a classical ballet dancer or the modern, daring interpretations that are seen on runways and the streets. It’s all about embracing the whimsy and elegance of a garment that can instantly make you feel like a princess!

But here in Canada, our love for the tutu runs deeper than just a hashtag. Ballet has a rich history here, from the founding of Canada’s first professional ballet company, Les Ballets Canadiens, in 1951, to the incredible work of our national ballet company, the National Ballet of Canada. Canadians are passionate about their arts, and the grace and artistry of ballet holds a special place in our hearts.

Now, let’s talk tutus! In St. Thomas, there’s no shortage of spots to find that perfect tutu to wear for a special occasion, or just for the fun of it. I love popping into some of our local vintage shops and scouring for hidden treasures. Who knows what gems I might uncover in the dusty corners – maybe a faded pink tutu from a bygone era, ready for a glamorous comeback!

Of course, you can’t talk about St. Thomas and tutus without mentioning the iconic **"The Princess of the Snowdrop" ballet by the St. Thomas Ballet**, which has enchanted audiences for years! Those beautifully crafted tutus, made in shimmering white tulle with a touch of sparkle, represent the beauty and magic of the story. It's no wonder it's become a local tradition. And speaking of tradition, it wouldn’t be #tututuesday without some of the classics:

• The Romantic Tutu: Think swirling, multi-layered tulle skirts that billow dramatically as you twirl. A quintessential romantic tutu in a delicate colour like blush pink or baby blue will transport you to a fairytale! • The Short Tutu: If you're looking for a bit more freedom and a playful touch, the short tutu is perfect! You can dance with confidence knowing you have the perfect amount of movement for jumps, leaps and even the occasional pirouette. • The Tutu Dress: Why just stick with a skirt? Some designers are crafting whole tutu dresses that are truly amazing! It's like wearing a cloud – you'll feel ethereal and glamorous!

Of course, with every style comes its own way to wear it! Do you like to keep your look classic and elegant, maybe pairing a classic tutu with a sleek black turtleneck and heels? Or are you into a more bohemian vibe, perhaps a short tutu with a denim jacket and some stylish boots? It's all about expressing yourself!

What I love most about #tututuesday is that it’s more than just about tutus. It’s about celebrating creativity, embracing fun, and reminding ourselves of the simple joy of movement and dance. So, grab a friend, find a space, put on a song that makes your heart sing, and twirl your way to happiness. After all, the world needs a little bit more glitter and grace – especially on Tuesdays!

Be sure to share your tutu looks using the #tututuesday hashtag. I'll be looking out for your posts and sharing my favourites. Happy dancing!
