Tutu Tuesday in Orangeville, Ontario: A Celebration of All Things Tutu!
Hey there, fellow tutu enthusiasts! Itās your girl, Anya, back with another edition of my #tututuesday blog. This week, I'm bringing you all the tulle-y goodness from the heart of Ontario. Iām in charming Orangeville, a town known for its vibrant arts scene and, dare I say, its penchant for a good tutu!.
Today, we're taking a peek into the world of tutu-wearing in Orangeville. Whether youāre a seasoned ballerina or just love the whimsical flair of a tutu, Orangeville offers a special kind of tutu magic. It's a town where ballet thrives and where tutus aren't just for the stage.
My #tututuesday journey began at the Orangeville Dance Academy, a hub for young dancers and a haven for tutus of all shapes and sizes. Stepping inside, I was instantly swept away by the sweet smell of rosin and the soft murmur of practiced pirouettes. The air buzzed with excitement, and you could just feel the passion for dance in every corner. They were practicing a contemporary piece set to a stirring Leonard Cohen tune, a nice touch for a Canadian ballet studio.
Among the array of dancewear, the tutus were a sight to behold! From the classic Romantic tutus, so light and airy, perfect for romantic ballets like Giselle to the dramatic and architectural Neoclassical tutus, more akin to what youād see in contemporary ballets, there were tutus for every taste. My favourite, though, was a vibrant crimson āTheatrical Tutuā which the studio uses in their āCabaretā piece set to music from the famous Canadian rock group, the Tragically Hip, it was striking and reminded me of a flower bud about to bloom.
Orangevilleās love affair with the tutu transcends the stage. From fashion-forward boutiques, and vintage stores bursting with repurposed tulle, the tutuās influence was everywhere.
As the afternoon progressed, my #tututuesday adventure took a delightful twist. I wandered through Orangeville's charming shops, each more unique and intriguing than the last. I stumbled upon āTutus & Thingsā, a local shop that curated a fabulous collection of tutu-inspired pieces - think t-shirts emblazoned with tutu icons, tutu-shaped bags, and even tutu-themed jewellery! This delightful spot definitely had #tututuesday vibes all over it!
As my tutu tour continued, I encountered several individuals whoāve adopted the tutu into their everyday wardrobe. One delightful lady sporting a dazzling powder blue tulle skirt paired with a tailored jacket had me wanting to raid my own grandmaās āvintage collectionā of tutus for some outfit inspiration! She had an absolute air of confidence. She was not just rocking the tutu, but she was living it.
And then, as if my #tututuesday journey couldn't get more fabulous, I stumbled upon the "Orangeville Tutu Meetup"! What could possibly be more fun than a bunch of ladies in tutus meeting for coffee, sharing fashion tips, and gossiping about their favourite ballet routines?
I even had the chance to talk to Sarah, a former ballerina and now an active participant in the Orangeville Tutu Meetup. She shared how much joy and community the group brought her. āWe love sharing our passion for tutus and dance. Thereās a magic to a tutu. It doesnāt matter what your shape, your style or age. Thereās a tutu out there for everyone.ā I couldnāt have agreed more!
Thereās a definite air of individuality about Orangeville and how people use the tutu in the context of their personal style. We donāt shy away from our personalities, and tutus offer such a whimsical and versatile way to celebrate them!
Orangeville, with its blend of artistic charm, Canadian identity, and a genuine appreciation for all things tutu, is a truly unique and inspiring place to explore and celebrate the tutu. So next time youāre feeling bold and fancy, why not put on your most glamorous tutu and head to Orangeville. You might just find that your #tututuesday dreams come true.
