Tutu Tuesday in Midland, Ontario: A Celebration of the Pointe Shoe
#tututuesday

Hey everyone! Itā€™s your girl, Sarah, back with another post! It's the first Tuesday of the month, and you know what that means ā€“ Tutu Tuesday! Now, I know some of you might be rolling your eyes and thinking, "Tutus? Really?" But hear me out! Tutus aren't just some silly little skirt worn by fancy ballerinas; theyā€™re a symbol of grace, artistry, and pure athleticism. And for us Canadian dancers, it's a reminder of the dedication and passion we put into this incredible art form.

Speaking of passion, Midland, Ontario, is overflowing with it. This little town in the heart of Georgian Bay is known for its breathtaking natural beauty, but did you know that it's also home to a thriving ballet community? That's why I'm celebrating Tutu Tuesday with an extra dose of Canadian pride!

Now, you know I'm all about finding the perfect outfit ā€“ that effortless look that speaks volumes even before you utter a word. And whatā€™s more iconic and effortlessly stylish than a tutu? Whether itā€™s a classic Romantic tutu, with its delicate layers of tulle, a dramatic, sweeping Neoclassical tutu, or a playful, contemporary tutu, each style holds a special place in our dance hearts.

Hereā€™s a fun little secret: every Tuesday, you'll find me rocking a different tutu around Midland, spreading some extra flair to an already fabulous town. So far, Iā€™ve been spotted in:

  • A gorgeous, classic Romantic tutu with a sparkling embellishment - it was like something out of a fairytale!
  • A vibrant, bold, contemporary tutu - think dramatic cuts and vibrant colour schemes.
  • Even a chic, modern tutu designed by a local Midland designer - supporting our Canadian talent is always a good move, am I right?

Honestly, Iā€™m not just strutting my stuff for attention (though, itā€™s definitely fun!), I'm trying to remind people that ballet is for everyone! Itā€™s about self-expression, pushing boundaries, and being creative, even when those boundaries feel impossibly rigid, like those strict traditional rules on what constitutes ā€œacceptableā€ ballet attire (though personally I like to bend those rulesā€¦ a little!).

To those of you new to the ballet world, I want you to know this: you donā€™t have to be a seasoned dancer to appreciate the magic of the pointe shoe or the beauty of a perfectly crafted tutu. In fact, Tutu Tuesday is for everyone - even the guys. This day is about embracing that inner-artist, that spark of creativity, and finding your own rhythm, be it in a twirling tutu or simply dancing with your heart!

For my fellow Canadians, this week is extra special as it coincides with National Ballet Month! Thatā€™s right! October is all about celebrating the wonderful art of dance in Canada. Itā€™s an amazing opportunity to discover the local dance studios in your community or support our incredible dance companies like the National Ballet of Canada!

From classic ballet schools in Midland to the National Ballet, ballet in Canada has grown and evolved alongside our national identity. Whether you're a seasoned professional, a recreational dancer, or simply someone who appreciates the power of art, I encourage you to participate! Iā€™d love to see your #tututuesday outfits. Remember, this day isnā€™t just about the tutu itself, but about finding your own artistic voice and celebrating the spirit of dance. Letā€™s make Tutu Tuesday a day filled with grace, confidence, and fun! And remember to use the hashtag #tututuesday, and maybe even tag @SarahsDanceBlog! Let's spread some love and some tutu-liciousness!
