Tutu Tuesday in Collingwood, Ontario: A Celebration of Ballet and Fashion #tututuesday

Hey there, fashion-forward ballet lovers! It's your girl, Chloe, back with another post dedicated to all things tutus. As a Canadian ballerina living and dancing in the beautiful town of Collingwood, Ontario, I can't help but feel a deep connection to the art form that has been such a huge part of my life. And what better way to express that passion than by celebrating Tutu Tuesday, a day dedicated to embracing the whimsical and elegant world of tutus?

This week's Tutu Tuesday theme is all about finding the perfect tutu for your individual style. Whether you're a classic ballerina at heart who loves the romanticism of a traditional tulle tutu, or a modern dancer who prefers the sleek lines of a contemporary tutu, there's a tutu out there for everyone. Let's dive into the world of tutu styles, shall we?

The Classic Tulle Tutu

This is the tutu that most people envision when they think of ballet. The classic tulle tutu is made from multiple layers of soft tulle that are gathered and sewn onto a waistband. It's a timeless and elegant style that always looks stunning on stage. This tutu is perfect for showcasing the traditional balletic lines of pirouettes and grand jetés. It's the epitome of ethereal beauty, making any ballerina look like a delicate flower on stage.

The Romantic Tulle Tutu

The romantic tulle tutu takes inspiration from the classic tulle tutu but with a twist. It features a more layered and billowing skirt, creating a dreamy and whimsical look. This style is often embellished with lace, ribbons, or flowers, making it perfect for those who love a touch of romanticism. Picture the ethereal tutu worn by a ballerina in the ballet "Giselle". The movement and airy nature of the Romantic tulle create a visual spectacle of delicate and flowing movements, adding a dreamlike quality to the performance. This tutu is best suited for romantic and emotional choreography.

The Contemporary Tutu

This type of tutu is all about sleek lines and modern shapes. It's made from different materials like stretch fabric, mesh, or even leather, giving it a more contemporary feel. The Contemporary tutu embraces simplicity and allows the dancer's movements to take center stage, highlighting their strength and athleticism. A favorite among contemporary choreographers, it enables expressive and modern dance styles, adding a layer of avant-garde flair to the art form.

The Short Tutu

The short tutu is a more practical choice for everyday wear. This type of tutu is a shorter version of the classic or romantic tulle tutus, usually reaching just below the knee. Short tutus are perfect for dancers who want to look stylish but not too fussy, and are ideal for classes, rehearsals, or for those who love the elegance of a tutu, but are less concerned with traditional lengths. This tutu makes ballet more approachable for everyday life, showing that ballet can be integrated into any style.

Choosing the Perfect Tutu for You

When choosing a tutu, there are a few things you'll want to consider:

  • Your style: What type of look are you going for? Do you prefer something classic and elegant or something more modern and edgy?
  • The occasion: Where are you going to wear the tutu? If you're planning on wearing it to a dance class or rehearsal, you'll probably want something more practical and comfortable. For a performance, a more elaborate style would be perfect.
  • Your budget: Tutus can range in price from a few dollars to hundreds of dollars. It's important to set a budget before you start shopping.

Tutu Tuesday Inspiration

I always find myself browsing the internet for #tututuesday inspiration. And guess what? Collingwood, Ontario, has a fantastic selection of ballet shops where you can find a fabulous tutu!

  • **The Dance Shoppe** on Hurontario Street in downtown Collingwood offers a range of ballet gear and tutus, perfect for beginners and seasoned dancers alike. You can find beautiful classic tutus and more modern-inspired styles too! I have a great short tutu I bought there last season, I use it for class every day!
  • **Dancewear Unlimited** on Georgian Drive is an amazing spot if you are looking for top-notch tutu choices. This spot is also a favorite for finding all my favorite ballet brands. You can get amazing tutus in all colours and lengths. It’s perfect for finding a unique piece to complement your personal style!
  • **The Dance Centre** located just on the edge of town in Thornbury offers a great variety of high quality and well-made tutus.

As I mentioned earlier, Collingwood is a beautiful place for all things dance! We have a thriving ballet community and some amazing studios and teachers.

  • The **Collingwood School of Ballet** is known for its strong focus on traditional technique and beautiful classical performances. The studio has a fabulous costume and tutu rental department for all performances. My best friend used their tutus for the "Swan Lake" performance we did back in high school - her tutu looked amazing, a classic black and white Swan Queen look! They have many classic tutus like the one I am wearing for Tutu Tuesday this week.
  • The **Collingwood Dance Centre** is a popular choice for dancers who are interested in a wider variety of styles. My favorite choreographer in town runs his dance company here. Their tutus are less classical and more avant-garde, and their costumes for their latest performance "In The Woods" were truly magical. They embrace experimental choreography, with styles ranging from lyrical to modern dance styles.

So there you have it, fashionistas and fellow dancers. Whether you're looking to add a new piece to your dancewear wardrobe, find a timeless classic, or experiment with contemporary styles, there is a tutu waiting for you in the world of dance. Now let's celebrate Tutu Tuesday, get your tutus on and let's spread some ballet love, shall we?
