Tutu Tuesday in Paradise, Newfoundland and Labrador: #tututuesday

Hey everyone! It's your girl, Chloe, here, back with another Tutu Tuesday post. This week, I'm taking you to a magical place, Paradise, Newfoundland and Labrador. It's truly a slice of heaven on Earth.

Imagine the air: it's salty, crisp, and invigorating. The vibrant colors: the cerulean blue skies meet the sapphire-hued ocean waves, all framed by the lush greens and reds of nature's canvas. Imagine yourself in a classic romantic tutu, light as a feather, gracefully flowing like the wind, capturing the very essence of this breathtaking paradise. This week, I’m exploring the magical connection between ballet, this island, and Tutu Tuesday.

While we are known for the power and strength of our Canadian dancers, we also have a side that embraces elegance and poise, represented by a perfectly-executed pirouette, a seamless arabesque, all beautifully enhanced by the exquisite grace of the classic tulle tutu.

We are known as "The Rock" – an apt moniker for an island with towering cliffs and dramatic coastline. In ballet, we speak of grounding and using our connection to the earth as our power source, much like those cliffs. Just like how the waves ebb and flow against the shores, a ballet dancer can feel the floor beneath their feet, using this sensation for every movement they execute, allowing them to fly with grace and freedom. The movement, like a wave, ripples and flows with effortless precision.

Newfoundland, like Canada, is known for being welcoming, friendly and having a real zest for life! From our cozy pubs and our community celebrations to our grand festivals like the Festival of Newfoundland and Labrador in July and the annual Harbour Grace Music Festival, the vibrant and joyous spirit shines bright! Similarly, the ballet allows for self-expression, celebration of life and connection to something bigger.

And it is this vibrant spirit and this welcoming heart that inspires Tutu Tuesday.

Let's explore the tutus in more detail!

Here are some tutulastic thoughts I have for Tutu Tuesday, Newfoundland and Labrador style

  • I love the juxtaposition between the romantic, ethereal quality of a tulle tutu, billowing like a sail in the ocean breeze, and the raw beauty and untamed spirit of the rugged island landscape. Think of those iconic pictures you've seen of wildflowers dancing in the wind – and picture that beauty with your favorite tutu in the foreground, making a statement that both compliments and complements the vibrant nature around it.

  • A ballet class amidst the scenic beauty of the Gros Morne National Park or at the St. John's Harbour front? Yes please! There is magic and connection to be had with nature when we connect with our movements.

  • Imagine, after a gorgeous day exploring the picturesque town of Bonavista, stopping for a picture on the harbor, your favorite Tutu swirling around you with the graceful fluidity of a seagull flying in the distance. Picture that! A visual to make your social feed soar.

  • If you’re channeling your inner Newfoundland and Labrador woman, why not embrace a pop of colorful pinks, blues, and greens, reflecting the iconic flowers on this spectacular island. Imagine yourself a walking masterpiece - blending a light and delicate ballerina tutu in the vibrant colors, capturing the essence of the island’s energy.

  • Maybe your preference is something a bit more modern, like the “whimsical tutu.” This style offers versatility – it’s a fusion of modern ballet and contemporary dance, often incorporating innovative and unconventional design elements. Think a tutu, not only gracefully draping but reflecting the innovative nature of a people constantly innovating and creating. A reflection of what makes Newfoundland and Labrador truly special, and unique.
  • No Tutu Tuesday would be complete without a nod to the legendary icebergs of Newfoundland and Labrador, these monumental pieces of ice floating majestically in the waters. So how do you get your iceberg chic on? Simple! Choose a classic, clean-lined tutu with a color palate inspired by the ethereal nature of the icebergs – think pearl gray, glacial white, and shimmering silver that accentuate your inner grace, while evoking the quiet beauty of these natural wonders.

Remember, my Tutu Tuesday lovelies! A Tutu Tuesday doesn’t have to be a Tutu all the time. Sometimes it’s just embracing those moments that make life magical: from our first morning coffee at a local café, to enjoying our walks on the water’s edge, to our heart-to-heart chats with loved ones.

And this week in Newfoundland and Labrador? I'm sharing this message from my heart: Life is meant to be celebrated, enjoyed and embraced in every beautiful detail! So, here’s to all those magical moments, you beautiful humans! We’re all connected - one beautiful ballet of life - a harmonious connection! I’m excited to see your own #tututuesday posts from this vibrant island, Paradise!

Stay well! Until next time.

Your girl Chloe.
