Saugeen Shores, Ontario: A Tutu Tuesday Extravaganza! #tututuesday

Hey fellow dance lovers! It's your girl, Claire, back with another blog post all about our favourite day of the week: Tutu Tuesday! This time, we're taking the celebration to the beautiful beaches of Saugeen Shores, Ontario. Where better to showcase these airy, twirly, and oh-so-stylish garments than a place known for its gorgeous coastline and fresh Canadian air?

As a Canadian ballet dancer, I'm constantly inspired by the stories told through movement. And what better way to express yourself than through the art of the tutu? Every style holds a different story, and today, I'm breaking down some of the most iconic types.

  • The Romantic Tutu: A classic that embodies elegance and grace, think light tulle and delicate layers flowing gracefully with every move. It evokes a sense of dreamy, fairytale-like quality perfect for graceful ballets like Giselle or La Sylphide.
  • The Classical Tutu: This one’s known for its shorter, more fitted design. Think layers of tulle and a snug waistline for powerful pirouettes and graceful arabesques. Imagine this tutu soaring through the air in ballets like Swan Lake or The Nutcracker.
  • The Modern Tutu: Think freedom of expression! It ditches the traditional shapes and layers for flowing fabrics and asymmetric designs, allowing for movement that's free-flowing and modern, like the contemporary ballets of today. This one embodies individuality and challenges conventional expectations!

We Canadians have a unique connection to ballet. We see it in our iconic national ballet company, The National Ballet of Canada, in our stunning regional companies across the country, and even in the passion we have for dance in our local studios and communities. Here in Saugeen Shores, we're witnessing the spirit of dance coming alive on these beaches!

My Tutu Tuesday tradition is a bit special. It’s about getting creative, letting loose, and having fun with a little fashion flare. Whether I’m at a rehearsal or on a casual outing, I find that a tutu just adds a sprinkle of magic to every moment. Today, I'm hitting the Saugeen Shores boardwalk, and my go-to is a light and airy romantic tutu. The sea breeze will carry its tulle gracefully as I stroll and maybe even sneak in a little twirl or two!

So, here's to the dance lovers of Canada, the magic of ballet, and the sheer joy of wearing a tutu. Embrace the freedom to express yourself, discover new styles, and most importantly, never shy away from embracing the beauty of movement. Don’t forget to join me on social media and share your own Tutu Tuesday adventures using the hashtag #tututuesday. Let’s show the world the Canadian spirit of dance and style, one twirl at a time!
