Tutu Tuesday in Val-des-Monts, Quebec #tututuesday
It’s officially Tutu Tuesday here in Val-des-Monts, Quebec, and you know what that means - it's time to dust off our tutus and celebrate the beautiful world of ballet! Now, I know what you're thinking: tutus? In Val-des-Monts? Believe me, you'd be surprised by the amount of ballerinas and ballet enthusiasts who live right here in the heart of the Quebec countryside. For me, a Tutu Tuesday means a day for all things ballet. And in honour of this special day, I’m here to show you just how much of a role these tutus play in a ballerina's life. Now, don't get me wrong. The everyday life of a dancer is pretty demanding, full of long hours, grueling workouts, and perfecting pirouettes (not to mention, keeping a constant eye on our ever-so-delicate tutus!). But we wouldn't trade it for anything! Why? Because at the heart of every dancer is an unwavering love for the art form, the beauty, and the sheer joy of moving. Here are a few fun facts about tutus you might find interesting! * Did you know that the first tutu appeared in 1832, way back when, as Marie Taglioni wore one in her role as La Sylphide? She was the OG of the tutus! * The Romantic Tutu was shorter and flowing compared to the Classical Tutu that took centre stage (quite literally) with the Ballets Russes. Can you imagine these ballerinas wearing all those layers and executing those crazy, intricate steps?! You'd be surprised at their agility! * As far as Tutus go, the options are pretty much limitless: you've got the Pancake Tutu (which, as you can imagine, looks a bit like a pancake!) The Pointed Tutu which looks like a series of triangular panels that offer greater fluidity, and the Classical Tutu which makes up the standard tutus with their frills, volume and layers of tulle. It’s practically iconic at this point.
And yes, you guessed it - I've got a Tutu Tuesday playlist for you!
* Ballet Classics * Contemporary ballet music that blends a little bit of something for everyone * Music to stretch to: classical, folk and everything in between
