Tutu Tuesday in Kapuskasing, Ontario: A Dance with Style! It's a beautiful Tuesday morning in Kapuskasing, Ontario, and I'm feeling the urge to twirl! It's #TutuTuesday, and I'm here to share some seriously fabulous tutu vibes with you, my fellow dance lovers! I can’t lie, as a ballet dancer living and dancing in Canada, it gets chilly in the winter. We have a really long winter in Northern Ontario and wearing tutus has some special considerations in the winter. If you have seen a Canadian ballet dancer doing a tour or outdoor performance, you know they sometimes add a bit of cozy warmth and an extra layer, perhaps a fluffy sweater or leggings! But today, it’s not cold! The sun is shining and so am I in my favorite tutu! For today's #TutuTuesday, I'm rocking a classic romantic tutu with a full skirt of soft tulle. It’s a light and airy style with beautiful layers, it’s the epitome of romantic elegance. Perfect for floating across the dance floor. But if I was out for a casual tutu Tuesday, you would probably find me wearing a short tutu with an elastic waist band that could even double as a dancewear skirt. A cute tutu is a casual look I can always wear when I want a bit of flair on the day. This week I have been digging through all the vintage dance shops and looking at some styles from ballet companies around Canada. Some companies have really special tutu designs that can be either classic and traditional, with the full-bodied tutu. It’s usually the iconic choice, and looks fabulous for classical ballet, especially when you see the ballet dancers do a grand jeté and you see the tutus really catch the light and float up to the ceiling. They’re like clouds! But other ballet companies around the country really lean in on the fashion side of dance, by having really modern tutu designs. Sometimes they don't even look like tutus at all! My all time favourite Tutu moment has to be at The National Ballet of Canada. Every year they have The Nutcracker show which is an absolute must see and has been my favourite show to watch every season! It’s such a Canadian favourite show that they run for so many weeks around Christmas time, so there are even Nutcracker shows all across Canada. When the Snow Queen comes on the stage you see dancers wearing sparkly white tutu-style dresses with lots of layered netting. So gorgeous. Some Inspiration: Speaking of stunning tutu styles! If you are looking for the perfect outfit, but aren't ready to buy just yet. Maybe try this? • Check out local shops in Kapuskasing! • Take a stroll around the downtown shops to get inspiration. • Keep an eye out for tutu-inspired fashions in different stores, from clothing shops to boutiques. You’d be surprised to see tutus making their way into different forms of fashion. I have even spotted ballet-style leotards in everyday wear! Tutu Tips If you want to channel your inner ballerina or just add a little twirl to your day, here are a few tips for your first #TutuTuesday: • Embrace the colour pink, because a tutu always looks better in a bright pink colour! • Make it playful! Pair a tutu with a quirky graphic T-shirt for a casual vibe. • Consider the weather when deciding how long you want to wear your tutu! If you live in the Canadian North like I do, keep an eye out for those winter chills, and make sure you wear some comfortable layers to stay cozy. Remember, fashion is a journey, a canvas, an artistic way of expressing yourself. Let your creativity blossom! Let's dance the day away, Kapuskasing! Happy #TutuTuesday!
