Tutu Tuesday in Boischatel, Quebec: A Celebration of Whimsy and Dance It's a beautiful day in Boischatel, Quebec! The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and it's Tutu Tuesday! You betcha! I know, I know, you’re all wondering – what on earth is Tutu Tuesday? It's a special day where ballerinas all over Canada and around the world celebrate the tutu. That's right! A day dedicated to the quintessential garment of the ballet world – the tutu! Whether you’re a seasoned dance pro like myself or just a regular Canadian who enjoys a good dose of twirling, there's no better way to express your love of dance than by rocking a tutu. For this #tututuesday I've chosen my favourite, a soft blush coloured romantic tutu. It's a classic style, with a single layer of soft tulle and a satin waistband. It's a little bit girly, a little bit sassy, and perfectly appropriate for a day of dancing around Boischatel, eh! But we’ll talk about tutus, because as any good ballet dancer knows, you’re not going to get anywhere with only a tutu - you need some shoes! My absolute favorite pair is my pair of red pointe shoes. They are perfectly broken in and ready to rock. Not that you'd need them for a regular Tuesday but for my performance tomorrow. Tomorrow I’m debuting my new performance! I’m dancing a beautiful waltz with a local theatre group, in an ode to a forgotten ballerina who was part of the founding of Quebec City’s Opera. And of course, a romantic waltz deserves a romantic tutu - but we'll discuss all that in the future! I love the freedom and creativity that come with wearing a tutu, and I love seeing people smile when they see me twirling. They're like, “What the heck, look at her twirling!” Then they ask to take a photo of me. What more can a dancer ask for, eh! Let’s get down to brass tacks, shall we? What’s the biggest thing about wearing tutus on a #tututuesday, in a beautiful place like Boischatel? The big reveal, the ultimate unveiling! I’m kidding, but really, there are different ways to show off the tutu, let me explain… * **The Romantic Tutu** - These beauties feature a single or double layer of tulle, which creates a soft and flowing silhouette. These tutus are often associated with ballets that are dreamy and lyrical, and you know I have an affinity for those! They tend to flow around me as if they are a part of my body, not merely an adornment, as many people tend to think. * **The Classic Tutu** - The classic tutu is one of the most iconic of tutu designs! Often adorned with rows and rows of ruffles, they're traditionally paired with more dramatic roles like Odette in "Swan Lake," a famous Canadian dancer Karen Kain (former prima ballerina of the National Ballet of Canada) is famously known for her portrayal. If you are familiar with this ballet you would know, one act you get to see her gracefully twirling with a pure white tutu as a swan, and another act you see her twirling in black as the dark, vengeful Black Swan. But alas! Not everyone has the pleasure to watch the art form! It’s a tragedy to the world, to miss this stunning dance piece. * **The 'A' Line Tutu** - This one is designed for versatility and flow, creating an 'A' line effect as opposed to the circular skirt of other tutus. Often made from several tiers of soft tulle for a truly billowy appearance, and because of its adaptability and comfort it's well-loved by all levels of dancers, even professional ballerinas like me. A'line tutus, just like the “A” line of a dress, complement your body type - this is essential to an artistic ballet routine. The same goes for the right ballet shoe - for example if you’re using the correct shoe that can actually enhance a 'ballet leap,' the famous “jetembe.' In general, there is so much detail that goes into an ideal routine and, well, we need the right wardrobe - starting from the feet and moving all the way to the skirt. * **The Romantic Tutu and Pointed Toe Shoe Duo - The Dynamic Duo!** As previously mentioned, we can't have one without the other. My shoes have a hard life - sometimes I can't find a comfortable fit, it's so hard! For my show tonight, the ballet slippers are pointe shoes! The name speaks for itself, right? It’s meant to provide a ballet dancer with enough stability to stand up on the tip of our toes! It's a classic match and if I was choosing to match my romantic blush coloured tutu I might wear pink shoes - they tend to compliment each other very well. * **The Romantic Tutu - Versatile** You'll love knowing that it is possible to make romantic tutus a lot more adaptable and wear them for everyday events and occasions. Not just dance events. Imagine, a pink romantic tutu as an ensemble for a ballet inspired costume! A blush coloured romantic tutu as a beautiful garment on my trip to Quebec City in a charming street that celebrates the artistic spirit! You just need to find the right ensemble to go with it, that will pair well with the colour. Well folks! I have to fly, it's almost time to get ready for tonight's show! Hope you all had a fantastic #Tututuesday! Remember, it's never too late to celebrate the art of dance and find joy in the simplest of things - like wearing a beautiful tutu! Oh, and by the way, a romantic tutu is the ultimate for Boischatel, Quebec.
