Tutu Tuesday in Wainwright, Alberta: A Tutu-tastic Celebration of Dance Hey everyone, it’s your favourite ballet-obsessed blogger, Olivia, here, and guess what day it is? You guessed it, #TutuTuesday! Today I’m coming at you live from Wainwright, Alberta, a place known for its vast prairies, friendly folks, and – you guessed it – a booming dance scene. Now, before you think I’m completely off my rocker, let me tell you, the dance community here is actually quite vibrant, full of passion, and more importantly, a whole lotta fun. That’s what I love about this small town - everyone knows how to celebrate the simple things in life. And what’s simpler than a tutu? Absolutely nothing, my friends. I mean, seriously, there’s something magical about a tutu. A classic tutu, you know, the one with the layers and layers of tulle, that just swirls and dances as you move. You can wear it to the ballet, or you can wear it to a picnic in the park. And let’s not forget about the contemporary tutu. With its edgy design and more minimalist approach, it gives you that sleek, modern vibe. And trust me, they are totally in right now. And, don't get me started on the "character tutu" – with its playful design, these ones are perfect for getting in touch with your inner princess or mischievous fairy, and there’s a character tutu for every style! Now, you might be thinking, “Olivia, tutus are for dancers. What’s the big deal? But I'm telling you, tutus aren’t just for the stage. I love seeing how everyone interprets them and expresses themselves in their own unique way. And on #TutuTuesday in Wainwright, it’s a truly special thing. Today in the heart of Wainwright, we were blessed with a sea of tutus - of all colours and styles, even those amazing neon-bright ones that made me want to throw on some disco music! And guess what? They weren’t just on dancers either! I spotted some guys in tutus too! So stylish. It was inspiring to see people of all ages rocking their tutus, feeling the rhythm, and radiating joy. It reminded me why we love dancing and the pure, unadulterated joy of expression it offers. It wasn't just the tutus though, everyone dressed the part. The vibrant colours, sparkles, sequins, feathers - there were feathers! The whole vibe was magical. People were so excited, and there was so much laughter and joy in the air. We’re not just dancing for ourselves. It’s a collective effort - something for all of us. And it felt so good to share this passion, the love of dancing, with everyone else. There’s a shared experience and shared energy in wearing tutus - no matter your age, shape, or size - you become a dancer. You become a part of the tribe. So yeah, this might seem like a silly thing to a lot of people - a bunch of people dressed up in tutus - but to us here in Wainwright, it's more than just an outfit. It's about celebrating self-expression, bringing smiles to faces, and proving that dance is for everyone! The #TutuTuesday event was packed full of workshops, a performance by the local dance company (those ladies were killing it in their powder blue tutus, seriously!), and even a mini ballet performance by a group of 8-year-old dance enthusiasts. I can’t even express how cute it was to watch these tiny humans expressing themselves with such passion. Their adorable little tulle tutus and sweet smiles just warmed my heart! Of course, no #TutuTuesday event is complete without a dance competition - that’s what makes it a proper celebration, you know? We had some real powerhouses show up. Let me tell you, there’s a lot of raw talent in this town! It was tough judging because everyone was incredible. But hey, it’s not about winning, it’s about having a blast! We had a freestyle competition too! Let’s just say it got pretty exciting when someone brought out a full-blown glitter cannon – there was sparkle literally everywhere! In the end, a few fantastic prizes were given out - some amazing dance supplies for the winners and, to top it all off, a stunning handmade tutu that was even more stunning in person. Let’s just say the person who won that prize got some serious envy from me - I could have stared at that tutu all day long. All in all, Wainwright’s #TutuTuesday was a beautiful testament to the joy of dancing and how it can bring people from all walks of life together, no matter their age or background. This was definitely one of the most beautiful, joyful, and sparkly #TutuTuesday experiences I’ve ever had - it really had something for everyone, and you know I'm looking forward to the next one! So, to all you wonderful folks out there - go find your tutu and go dance it out. Life is too short to not have fun, right? And, be sure to check out this video that my friend shot of our fabulous day out!
