Tutu Tuesday in St. Paul, Alberta: A Celebration of Dance and Fashion

Hey everyone! It's your friendly neighbourhood ballerina, and today is a very special day: Tutu Tuesday!

Now, for those of you who don't know, Tutu Tuesday is a celebration of all things tutu. From the classic romantic tutus with their billowing layers of tulle to the more contemporary styles with their sharp lines and edgy silhouettes, the tutu is an iconic symbol of ballet and feminine elegance. And there's no better place to celebrate this fabulous fashion piece than in the heart of Canada.

As a Canadian ballerina, I'm incredibly proud of the rich history of ballet in our country. We have a vibrant and diverse dance community that includes some of the world's finest ballet companies and schools. We're talking National Ballet of Canada, The Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and countless other fantastic companies, all fostering a deep appreciation for the art form. So, it's only natural that Tutu Tuesday would be a huge hit here in Canada!

Here in St. Paul, Alberta, the tutu spirit is definitely alive and well. This little city has a thriving arts scene, and you can find dance studios and performance spaces tucked away in every corner. There's a real passion for dance in this community, and it's amazing to see how everyone embraces this fun, playful side of fashion.

Here's what makes Tutu Tuesday so special:

  • It's all about having fun! Ditch the usual Tuesday blues and put on your favourite tutu. Whether it's a vintage piece, a homemade masterpiece, or even a DIY version, any tutu will do. This is your chance to unleash your inner ballerina and twirl around like nobody's watching.
  • It's a way to support local dance communities. Tutu Tuesday can be a fantastic opportunity to show some love for your local dance schools, studios, and companies. Grab your tutu, maybe wear a special tutu, or buy a sweet new dancewear piece! A lot of businesses run special sales and discounts for the day to help boost community involvement.
  • It's a chance to spread some sparkle. There's something magical about the way a tutu catches the light. The tulle shimmers and shines, and it makes you feel like you're ready to take on the world (or at least a pirouette!). We could all use a bit of that sparkle, especially on a Tuesday, so it is truly uplifting and puts smiles on everyone's faces.

Some of my favourite Tutu styles:

  • The classic romantic tutu: This is the quintessential ballet tutu. It's full of layers of tulle, making it billow and flow effortlessly. Perfect for elegant pieces, ballets like *Giselle*, and *Swan Lake*.
  • The contemporary tutu: This is a more modern take on the tutu, and it's often made with fewer layers of tulle, giving it a sleeker look. The contemporary tutu can also come in all sorts of interesting shapes and sizes, and I love how this style allows for more unique looks!
  • The tutu skirt: This is a fun and fashionable way to add a bit of ballet flair to your everyday outfit. It's typically made with a shorter length and it's super versatile. Throw on a sweater or cardigan, and bam! instant fabulousness.

Don't forget the fun!

So, on this Tutu Tuesday, I encourage you to embrace your inner ballerina. Grab a tutu, put on your biggest smile, and twirl with all your heart! Let's celebrate the magic of dance, fashion, and all things sparkly, because that's what Tutu Tuesday is all about. Remember to share your photos with us, tag us on your stories, #TutuTuesday, and most of all, don't be shy to share that joy of dancing, everyone can dance, and everyone can rock a tutu!

Until next Tutu Tuesday!
