Tutu Tuesday in Tisdale, Saskatchewan: A Whirlwind of Tutu-tastic Fun #tututuesday Hey everyone, it's your girl, Chloe, back with another Tutu Tuesday post! As a professional ballet dancer in Saskatchewan, my love for tutus runs deep. Theyā€™re not just garments to me, theyā€™re like wearable art, a celebration of movement and artistry. So naturally, Tutu Tuesday is my favourite day of the week. And what better way to celebrate than with a trip to Tisdale? Let me tell you, Tisdale, Saskatchewan is brimming with character. Its heart is full of small-town charm and it's a place thatā€™s slowly gaining traction as a vibrant destination for both cultural exploration and artistic expression. I felt it in the energy, in the people I met, in the little cafĆ©s and art galleries I stumbled upon, and especially in the beautiful Ballet Academy that's putting Tisdale on the Canadian dance map! Hereā€™s a quick rundown of my Tutu Tuesday adventures in Tisdale: * **Tutu shopping at "Threads & Twirls"**: It all started with a visit to "Threads & Twirls" - a delightful little shop I stumbled upon right in downtown Tisdale. The owner, a former ballerina herself, knows her stuff about tutus and had a dazzling collection ranging from classic Romantic tutus in soft hues of peach and pink, to more modern styles with vibrant colours and asymmetrical designs. The sheer volume of styles left me giddy, and I knew right then and there, my Tutu Tuesday was off to a great start! * **Lunch with local dancers at "The Coffee Bean"**: After scoring a new tutu at Threads & Twirls, I met up with some of the amazing young dancers at Tisdale's Ballet Academy for lunch. It was such a fun time sharing stories and getting to know each other. I was so impressed with their passion, dedication, and their incredible skill! They were all so eager to learn, and the positive energy they had towards dance was contagious. * **Workshop at Tisdale Ballet Academy**: Then it was time for a little fun at the academy! The teacher, Madame Benoit, put together a mini workshop that had us all twirling and leaping in a beautiful little studio space they've built behind the academy. I got to show off a few of my tricks from my professional dance days while we all practiced techniques, exploring some classical ballet basics as well as some more contemporary dance movements. Madame Benoit definitely has an amazing vision for building a strong dance community in Tisdale. * **Tutu-themed Instagram challenge**: To continue the #tututuesday vibes, I challenged everyone, from fellow dancers and the locals at "The Coffee Bean" to post their best tutu pics! They embraced it with the biggest smiles and shared some hilarious and inspiring snaps ā€“ from a local mechanic posing in his daughter's old tutu, to a farmer with a fluffy pink tutu proudly standing in front of a haybale! It just goes to show, a little tutu fun can bring people together from all walks of life! A little about tutu styles Speaking of tutus, a bit about their variety. Youā€™ve probably heard the term ā€œtutuā€ used in a general sense, but let me tell you, the world of tutu is wonderfully diverse. They're more than just fluffy, pretty dresses for dancing; there's actually a huge range of styles! For example, there's the "Romantic Tutu" - elegant, flowing layers with a soft, ethereal quality, often seen in classical ballets. Thereā€™s also the "Classical Tutu" - short, stiffened, with a full and sculpted look, often associated with stories of fairies or the whimsical! For a more modern feel, there are ā€œModern Tutusā€ - made with fabrics like tulle, net, and sometimes even silk or satin, offering an abundance of movement and bold colours and playful textures. I love the idea that a simple tutu can spark such joy, creativity and fun ā€“ from traditional ballet classes to playful street-style fun! The most important thing, really, is to find the tutu style that speaks to you! Tutu Tuesdays across Canada I think every city in Canada needs to have a Tutu Tuesday! It's so simple and uplifting, a chance for people of all ages and backgrounds to connect, dance and express themselves. From coast to coast, Canada is a country filled with amazing dance communities and itā€™s always exciting to find new ways to support local dancers, academies and the overall vibrant artistic community that continues to thrive. So, what's stopping you? If you havenā€™t joined the movement yet, grab a tutu and find your local #tututuesday group - trust me, you wonā€™t regret it. Happy dancing, everyone! #tututuesday
